Sorry, this one may not be the answer your looking for. But I did the contest scene for several years, even won a few . Now I no longer build models to please a judge who most likely has no idea if my stuff is accurate or not. I build to please me and me alone. In the past 15 years I've been to a total of 2 contests and have only entered builds on one of them ( didn't place with any either) I went to show off my daughters build and hang with some friends I don't see much

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
gtx6970 replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I say get it the best you can without having to re-frabicate most of your work so far and move forward. Just go easy on it when you let the clutch out for the 1st time And I'm well aware of being our own worst critic, I know I am . And I don't even have the knads to build at this level. But I sure like looking when others do . -
I like it,,, a lot

Stupid things we do.

I refuse to answer on the grounds it may incriminate me. -
Are these on a clear carrier and require close triming around the lettering itself ?

They were done several years ago but I ' think ' it's testors ' metalizer steel ' , brushed on obviously . ends were just opened up slightly with the tip of an exacto blade and painted with flat black Thanks all, it's far from perfect but overall I'm pretty happy with it . The heavy metallic makes it jump out at you when the light hits it

Thanks all. And yes it does feel good to move another one to the done side of the display case. Wayne, You very well could be correct about the decals . It's been a while since this one was painted and I don't remember 100% one way or the other. I do remember buying some Performace Detail Products decals many years ago ( still have a few in the stash actually ) Here are a few chassis shots just for giggles

Finally,,, after probably close to 15 years , I finally hunkered down and finished this one. This is another one thats been sitting in the case half done for far to long. Revell Gene Snow kit with Slixx decals . Body was painted with a Mopar touch paint for wheels,,,, called sparkle silver so it has a real heavy metallic finish to it . From what I remember the actual car wasn't painted, but molded in this gel coat that had the heavy metallic molded in . I added some basic details like plug wiring and fuel lines , and a taller rear tire from the parts box to help fill the rear wheel wells. Glad to get another over to the completed side of the case. Just got another half dozen to go before I start any new projects. As always , comments good and bad always welcome.

Slixx has ( or at least use to have) the decals to do both the 1967 and 1968 CMG cars. ( both cars on one sheet ) DO NOT use a polar lights body to do the 1968 CMG car. the original 1/1 CMG was a stock proportioned body shell . You can either use a Revell body or get a resin body thru Competition Resins. me personally I would glue the hood shut on the Revell body and use it . Or look for an original MPC builtup and restore it .

Promotionals , Anyone collect Vintage promos
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I collect Mopar promos so I can only vouch for them. They were made of acetate up till 1963 , then as a far as I know after that all were produced in styrene. Solid colors were molded in color with metallics were painted bodies ( body only btw ) As an example a 1969 GTX promotional was avail thru the typical dealer network as a coaster style chassis. These had like color interiors and a non friction chassis with detail. A puesdo promo style car was avail in the aftermkt. These cars were avail thru some of the secondary markets ( dime stores , retail stores etc etc ) These cars had the same body detail but had a smooth chassis plate with a friction motor and typically the interior was a different color than the exterior of the car. The one's that I've had over the years were blue car with white int, White car with red int. Red car with grey int. The friction cars were hit and miss as far as what was avail and what wasn't . 1970 GTX was dealer network promotional only , no friction car was avail -
Roger, the Demon looks plain killer. I like it a lot Well done once again Chuck, do the decals for the Billy The Kid 1970-71 challenger and I'll take the 1st set

Question for a Mopar specialist
gtx6970 replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not aware that the 2 scoop hood was avail as a stand alone option to be added to any model / engine combination. AFAIK, it was part of the RT option pkg and had to be ordered as such. 340 four barrel cars were the exception, also known as the A66 cars option code pkg -

Getting My Fix, Store or E-bay ?
gtx6970 replied to Chris White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know some sellers over inflate postage costs. but just as an example. I just ck'd costs to ship a single model kit to Canada from Northern Ky , price was just under $17 Same box to Florida is $8 Same box to California is $10 -

WOW. Owner decides to build HIS car the way HE wants it and obviously DRIVES it and get chastised for it . It's not my style but i'm not got to criticize a car or it's owners taste because of it Thanks keep it up. I like it when the cars are driven just because the owner wants to -
I have a Hobby Lobby and a Michaels, at neither of which do I buy model kits unless it's an impulse buy . But I do use them for various supplies, such as Exacto blades, some paints, misc detail supplies such as crimp beads and braided wire for added detail when I get the itch to go beyond box stock I also have a local mom+pop hobby shop I hit from time to time if I'm in the area, and I have bought kits and paint supplies there from time to time but his selection is not the greatest . But then again I probably haven't bought more than maybe 4 or 5 new kits in the past year and half To be honest most of my kit purchases the past year or so have been out of production stuff and 90% of it came from ebay

Traction bars, coil overs and rear ends.
gtx6970 replied to JPolli's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Using brass tubing and some sheet plastic I made my own traction bars. I made these probably close to 20 years ago for a pro stock project I had in mind, that to this day has never been completed.,,maybe someday. -
About a year ago I bought a resin Dodge truck grille of similar model year . It was molded so bad no amount of work was going to improve it. After hearing back from the seller stating it was the best he had, I dropped it in the trash can and moved on. I bought a builtup truck instead later on for the project I have planned. I seriously hope your experiance goes much better.
