For some reason. The 2 front seats and the hood are easily the hardest parts to find.

I'll double , no triple your investment

Of that were true. Revell had the decent albeit 1.24th scale. 1971 Cuda in there lineup. Yet they tooled up an all new from scratch 1970 Cuda.

I'll respectively disagree. 1968 Coronet builders consistantly sell for near or usually over $100 on a regular basis. Tells me me there is quite a command for this kit. Unbuilts are another matter. $500 is typically the minimum one can count on. A factory sealed one sold recently for over $1000.

1968 Olds 442 Wheel Options
gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm not 100% certain. But I think it was either rally's or Steel wheels with some version of hubcaps in 1968. I'm not an Olds guru by a long shot...so don't take my opinion to the bank -
WOW, Wish I had seen them. I think I may have most of the parts to fix those, except maybe one hood

I have a couple of the MPC trailers , I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them

What did you see on the road today?
gtx6970 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A couple just moved in down the street form me and in the driveway was a 66 or 67 fairlane hardtop. If I see anyone out during our morning walks ,,,I just may have to stop by for a chat . -
Metallic paint for an interior?
gtx6970 replied to crowe-t's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Try to find a similar color in the duplicolor rattle can. Most of them are designed to have a clear topcoat. But it left as painted will be a satin sheen to it . You just have to find one thats a pearl type finish to avoid the really big metallic -
I personally think your price ranges are a tad light. Ive not seen one for under $50 in a while. I own 3 unbuilt 71 Road runner kits , and not one was purchased in the last 3 or 4 years. Cheapest one was $25 maybe 5 or 6 years back and I think I got really lucky. The other 2 were $45 and $50 ea. Now as for the 72 kit. Be prepared to dig deep, really deep for one. Unbuilts will easily pull $200 - $ 300 range and clean builders top over $100 . Ive seen the guys parting kits out and just the grill typically pulls $20- 25 range. PS, to tool a 71 off the 74 kits is more than just the body , hood and grill and bumpers. The interior pattern is different as well. I was told many years ago by someone connected to the inner workings of the hobby at the time and was told the 71 kit was damaged a long time ago and will NOT return without a MAJOR investment by the manufacturer

'70s Paint Jobs
gtx6970 replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This style is impressive on 1/1 cars. Simply phenomenal in 1.25th scale -
Very nice. Even I have a soft spot for these early Cadillac's , I have a builders of Johans 1959 and 1960 kits. And an unbuilt USA oldies issue 64 Convertible that I managed to pick up an original issue set of the correct front seats. And Ive been thinking I need to get back to the model bench here soon. And that 64 has been calling my name. So it might be the 1st one I drag it out and build here very soon

Kind of along the lines of the ' is the hobby dead post' Is it dead ? NO, not by a long chance. On the down side ? Yes and has been for some time. Look around at any model show or swap meet. MOST of the people waling around are grey hairs ,,,just like me. Im not saying the hobby will die when the majority of us do. BUT, I'm sure it will take an even further downturn than where its at today. I'll be honest, If ALL manufacturers closed up shop today and we saw nothing new from here on. I think I have far more than enough to keep me busy the remainder of my days . And I'm actually trying to thin the stash considerably. if I can get down to mostly vintage builder old annuals I probably have enough to keep me busy for the next 10 / 15 years EASILY with just them alone

Nice, I built the 55 to give a good friend as a replica of the black 1/1 car he owns. I have both the 55 and 56 to build for myself one day. I'll probably do another black 55 and maybe a white 56 ...they are a ways down the list so I have time to change my mind I guess LOL I may look into one of the diecast cars for the shelf for the time being. Its looks pretty good as well

I used the photo etched grille in one of my old builds. And I sure improves the front of the car so much better. BUT, keep in mind the moulding across the top of the grill is attached to the hood on the 1/1 car. So there will be no moulding across the top if the hood is up .

Paint equipment question
gtx6970 replied to Greg Wann's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Same here, only ever seen water. -
Best I can remember. I believe you are correct. , And yes, Pictures of the SS car are far and few between . I remember reading years ago this car was a Hodge Podge or parts sp to speak and was NOT amblewagon converted as the other AFX cars were.
-
-
Original picture of the AFX car, which is what the original SS car became. and its DEFINITLY a tan interior
-
Ive read elsewhere long ago that the 1965 MM car was a pieced together car. Odds are the interior was a mixture of parts. So I have no idea which is 'correct' for this car BUT a 1965 A990 car would have this interior. Problem is, the A990 was a sedan , where as the MM car was a 2 door hardtop PS< Tamiyas Champagne gold is a very good match for this color
-
Ive always liked this car in this very livery. And I'm not a builder of this type race car yet, I keep telling myself to find a model kit to build someday. problem is my wallet never seems to agree with me when I think about pulling the trigger on one
