How do you decide what type of paint to use?
gtx6970 replied to Bill Anderson's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What color I'm after and who has it... determines what type of paint i have to use But for the most parts Tamiya or Duplicolor lacquer is 90% of what i use for exterior finishes. Tamiya acrylics or testors enamels for everything else( brush painted) -
Correct Im going to replicate the silver/blue SS car, I also have a resin body and most of an old MPC Charlie Allen '69 to go along with it , SO , I MIGHT do the AA/FC as well . I have the silver/red '69 AA/FC car done already

Great looking build so far ps, If someone is going to resin cast that seat. I could be interested in a couple sets

Great idea, And especially cool because the 1/1 in fact HAS the slot in the back for the hinge to retract into

Chrome reverse rims - Options ? procedures
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ok, Update Being the tight wad I am I was searching ebay for sellers parting out kits and someone posted the chrome rims from a Lindberg 64 Dodge So, I went thru just about every Lindberg Mopar kit I had that I thought had steel wheels in them Found 4 real nice ones in the Lindberg Maverick Dodge kit, AND all 4 are chrome Went thru the Lindberg spare kits box and found two ft tires that fit said chrome steel wheels. ( Ive parted a bunch of these kits out in the past 15 years ) AND with some offset mods they will fit the Revell wheel backs for the front end. Rears are also same Lindberg wheels but in the Revell 67 GTX kits rear tires and kit wheel backs That way everything fits the revell kits chassis components , And the simpler the better PERFECT , for me anyway Thanks all for the quick replies. It sure opened my eyes to look around the stash a bit -
Chrome reverse rims - Options ? procedures
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I just pulled one of these kits down Tires are ok, but the rims are not chrome. Which creates another problem PLUS ,,,, these tires will fit the chrome wheel from said 63-64 Ford( which are far from my ideal 1st choice ) . BUT then the tires dont fit the Revell wheel backs that fit the rear axle in said kit that position the tires in the wheelhouse right -
I have one on the bench I need these rims for , ft and rear Its a drag car, based on the Revell 1967 GTX. So if I can come up with wheels that fit this kits tires is a bonus I've sprayed some Spazstix over a gloss black base spoon test. Its OK at best so am looking for options Sending rims out to be plated , Is not one of those options I've pulled the front rims out of the recent issue 63 or 64 Ford and the fronts I can use in a pinch but the rears are far far to small

Many Thanks But I agree , I've been looking at wheel pictures of this particular car and Im leaning more towards a dark silver grey color for the rim recesses
-
Cking for final stance. Im torn between using the kit no name rear tires and the recent MPC blue streaks Mpc redlines front tires are a lock I think the blue streaks are a little more correct in both stance AND appearance wise for THIS particular car. So I'm 90% certain I'm using them Plus they just look cool

Oh I will. This is just a stance ck I'm not sure yet if I'm even using these tires

small update Been working on a 1/1 projects so Model bench time is a bit slower I got in some wheels and wheel backs to fit the car and Using a Dana axle . All from the Revell 68 Charger ( gotta be accurate if I can ) So a general mockup had to be done just to see how its gonna set on the tires . And I think I like it . Not too high, not too low all the way around edit, Better pictures

Unless its some high end MPC body ( even then Im not sure I would try ) Or has some sentinemtal attachement then and only then MAYBE
