Scale I Build

  1. Hi guys. Hope everyone's doing good. Here's my last build, this is a very rare R&R Resin kit of a '62 Coupe Deville I have since at least a decade. It is converted from the Fleetwood 60S by JoHan. I had poorly painted it with a saturated turquoise blue back then and had never been happy with it. Needed a good restauration. So, I offered the Cadillac a new two tone dress, as close as "Pompeian Red Metallic" with an off-white top. Black and white interior with black carpeting. Painted accent hubcaps and new hand made chromed V crests. Hope you'll like it. Thanks !
  2. Box pics, contents, and instructions here Enjoy 🙂
  3. Today I share with you my last build, a Cadillac of course. It's a Page Resin kit, probably converted from the Fleetwood 1962 made by Johan. As it's not a mass produced kit and it is made by hand, it needs a fair amount of preparation to get the final assembly right. Overall the kit's quality is very good, comes complete with chassis, glass and bumpers but no chrome plated parts... so as it is now impossible to find someone or a company trustworthy enough to offer this service, I had to use an old wrapped JoHan donor for the chromes. These "Deville" series have never been made by Johan ( who made only Fleetwoods ) so the roof line as well as the B pillar are totally new and correct for that series, and the horizontal strips above the rear bumper as also new and accurate. Hope you'll like it ! Cheers !
  4. Waaaaaay back in 1980 I was 12 years old. My bedroom window overlooked the West Islip High School. Every graduation day, my dad and I would stand on the deck to the pool so we could look over the fence and chant, “We want smoke! We want smoke!” I remember a lot of muscle cars that were driven to School in the 70s. From Road Runners, Chevelles, Corvettes, to 442s, you name it. They never failed to fill our neighborhood with smoke and the smell of burning rubber! I did my part in 1986 with my 1970 Monte Carlo. It was a 350 2 barrel with a 2 speed powerglide. I couldn’t do a standing burnout, but donuts worked to break the tires loose! I have a short video taken by my mother! We were and still are a car family! Here is a short video of my efforts: Back to the subject of this post! One day in 1980 while looking over the cars in the parking lot, I spied a Corvette. It looked pretty cool, so I grabbed my 110 camera, hopped the 6 foot chain link fence and ran over to the car for a couple pictures. Back in those days you didn’t know what your pictures looked like until you sent the film out for developing and got them back. I guess all the running put me a little out of breath and the pictures came back with bit of camera shake. But I saved those pictures all these years. I’ve always wanted to do a model of that car, and the Revell 62 Corvette was just what I needed to finally get it done! There’s some lettering on the front fenders that is very hard to read today in these pictures. But for some reason “Dad’s Dream” sticks in my mind from all those years ago. Recently a friend of mine was able to clean the pictures up a little bit for me, and it does look like that’s what it says on the fenders. So I painted the body white and then masked off what I wanted to leave white. I painted the rest of the car black but experienced some trouble with paint flaking off while I was removing the masking tape. I set that body aside and decided to paint the spare body that I had, black and then mask off for the white. This yielded much better results. Plus as it turns out I incorrectly painted too much of the cove white the first time around. In the pictures I can see the car had a teardrop hood. I was unable to find a teardrop hood for that body style Corvette so I had to create my own. I used plastic and clay to get a rough shape and then made a mold and cast the hood in resin. The resin copy was smoothed out, primed and painted with the rest of the car. Here is where I’m at now. The interior is in place and the chassis with the wheels in place. There are some pictures below. I figure for the engine I’ll do a dressed up 350 with basic chrome goodies and headers. This is artistic license of course, as I did not get any pictures of the actual motor. I printed the Dad Dream lettering on the laser printer using white decal film with a black border. But it’s not working too well. I recently acquired my father‘s old laptop that still has windows XP on it. I have to try and find drivers for my Alps printer so I can print the lettering in white on clear film. Here are some pictures, any comments or suggestions are welcome!
  5. I did the conversion on this model about two years ago. I got it into prime and then let it sit for a few months. I wet sanded it and painted it red about a year ago. I used Dupli-color Chevrolet Torch Red and urethane automotive clear. That sat for about another year. I figure by now everything is good to handle! So I took it out and started work on it last night. I’ll add some pictures with the chrome foil later today. I realize last night that the door panels may not be correct for a 61. I’ll probably go with the 58 door panels instead. Which means prime and paint but no clear.
  6. This model I got from amazon for $8. It is an Arii kit. They are a Japanese brand and this kit falls under their 1/32 Owners Club series which includes many unique vintage Japanese cars. Anyways, the Carol was Mazda's second passenger car and the 360 model was powered by a 360cc water cooled inline 4 motor that made about 19 Horses. The model is box stock except I just added some styrene rod to the sides to replicate the chrome trim that was supposed to be on the car. It took about a week to build and it was a fun quirky build.
  7. Need help figuring out what these bumpers & grills are for. Thanks for any help.
  8. Has anyone ever built the arii 1/32 Mazda carol, if so what does it look like when it is finished and what is the kit quality like? pictures of the kit from online: the kit only has like 20 parts I think.
  9. Here's an '80's flash-back! I originally built this pro-street Johan '62 Chrysler 300 back in '86. I recently pulled it out of my showcase to do some repair work and upgrade it. Gotta love the '80's. There was a lot of questionable automotive styling trends applied to this model. I wonder what today's hot rodding trends are that we will shake our heads at in the future. More pics and all the details are on my site at the link. http://www.svensworldofwheels.com/62300page.html
  10. Hello. Long time since there have been a wip for my part, more or less been watching all the great builds on here, and a little sourcing parts and future retoration objects,so very little building. The other day i thought i`d pull out one of my favorite cars, the 62 bubble top Bel Air. Some say it has an incorrect grille, but i`m not bothering going into it,it`s still a very nice kit,and as usual i could not go stock, well the person who sold it to me did not include the original wheels anyway, only the 5spoke who follow the kit. I have more or less sorted out the stance, then used some hours trying to adapt the cowl hood, also instead of the 409 this will get a massaged 454 with twin carburators on a high rise sorta manifoil. This might change as for when i see if there is room for the set-up or not under the cowl. I sometimes change along the way. I do have some resin steelies with more modern Chevy hubcaps from Missing Link i might be using. Idea for colors are as for now between these: 1. White body and wheels with champagne roof and interior. 2. Champagne body and wheels with black roof and Interior. 3. Black body, wheels and red interior. 4. Light blue body, wheels and white roof and interior. Feel free to suggest what you think will look the best. Anyway, here are some pictures of the mock up.
  11. Hi. Can anyone confirm if the wheelbase is identical on the kits on the pictures?
