Foxer Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 This is the oldest model I could find. I had this model, but it took more putty than I had ..

blunc Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Hi Mike, These are awesome conversions !!!! My favorite is the one with the Trans-am front clip. Randy Thanks, I would probly still have possession of the "Dats-Am" if I hadn't given it to the owner of the 1:1 Dats-Am. The other two are awaiting a little work due to age and skill set improvements.
Snake45 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Found a couple pics of another one I built back in 1969.
dartman Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 One of the very few photos I have of a car I built as a kid. I have others, this is just the only one I have readily available. Photo by my father, and I was probably 14 or so at the time, I really don't recall. Wow....I love the flake. Was it rattle can or some thing else?
chunkypeanutbutter Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Somewhere I have pictures of paint-customized Hot Wheels I took when I was six or so...
DumpyDan Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Cool love the old pic's, I have one myself just got find it.
Tom Geiger Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Somewhere I have pictures of paint-customized Hot Wheels I took when I was six or so... Reminds me of a story... when I was 10 I used to custom paint Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. This was like 1968-9. Testors brush paint for the most part, but I'd do designs and such. All the kids thought they were cool and wanted a car like that, so I sold some for $1 each. Some kid's mother came screaming to my mother that I ruined her kid's car by painting it. Beauty in the eyes of the beholder for sure!

I did that exact same thing, except all my customers were satisfied and I charged $5 a piece! I remember one HW school bus I did in black with flames that took incredibly long to do. Scott Colmer Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) Steve. The unpainted double dragster is perfect! I remember it was all about decals and glue for a long time. Then brush paint and finally spray paint. Tom. That reminds me that I have some customized HO slot cars stashed somewhere. They did not run very well because of the weight. But they looked pretty cool. That falcon is excellent, Snake. Where did you get the purple haze decal? Edited June 11, 2015 by Scott Colmer
Snake45 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 That falcon is excellent, Snake. Where did you get the purple haze decal? It's not a decal. I hand-painted that on there with Testor "little bottle" paint. (Tried to do the stringy spiderweb-thing on the roof with it, too.) I was a huge Hendrix fan in 1969.
John Goschke Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Me and my Johan '59 DeSoto friction model in the driveway of my grandparents' house. New Castle, PA, summer of 1959.
sjordan2 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Recent photos of the oldest kit I still have, 1/12 Airfix Bentley built in 1974.
Don Sikora II Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 This is the oldest picture I have with me and a model. It's from 1977 or '78...not sure where my mom found the NOS AMT '70 Monte Carlo. I still have it, but it's pretty rough. The picture is recent, but this AMT 1/43-scale '69 AMX is the oldest model that I built and still have. I remember getting to pick it out at Wilson's Variety, probably in 1975 or '76.
Scott Colmer Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 Don, Period pictures are the best. Bet you wish you still had the Desoto. Excellent job on the Bently, skip. Some people have an early knack for building. Don, 90% of my models came from Sproutz Ritz. My parent would drop me off while they shopped at the Safeway next door. I did not mind looking at the models for as long as they needed. On another note, I think professor Slughorn was hiding in your house. ( Harry Potter reference.)
Lordmodelbuilder Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Here's a couple old pics of some of my models. Only old pics I have sadly. The van is an old MPC Dodge I built around 1973. I rebuilt and painted it a bunch of times. Made it 4 wheel drive then lowered it back down and made it into a shorty. The other pic is whats left of the van today. I had started another Dodge in the late 70's to replace this one,but it never was finished. The other picture with my mom in it is from around 1978 or 79. My Datsun 4x4 model & 1956 Ford F100 are on the mantle behind her. I still have both of these today. Built the 56 in 1974, and rebuilt it in 1975. Included a couple pics of how they look today.
Lordmodelbuilder Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Looks like Blunc & I had similar mini truck customization ideas. My TransAM Courier was built in 1981. mid 80's pic Just a couple months ago, mid 80's pic, Mid 80's pic,
