I was just curious what was the first car you owned.

Now I'm not talking about the one you borrowed from your parent or other family members, but the first one you reached into your pocket and pulled out the cash or got a loan to buy.

My first car was a '63 Nova with a 194 cu in (3.2 l) straight 6. I bought it from a high school classmates mother when she got a new car, I only paid $200.00 for it. The darn thing didn't smoke but it leaked oil so bad that my old man refused to let me park in in "his" driveway. So I parked at the curb in front of the house all the time. LOL

I would buy a case of oil every few months or so from the dented can salvage store...because the cans were dented they were sold at a steep discount..but I didn't care because e the oil inside the can was OK. I had to put a quart and a half of oil in every six days or so.

But, that was OK by me, it was mine and I finally didn't have to beg the old man for the keys to the family car any more. :D

My first muscle car was a per-owned '68 Javelin with a 390, manual breaks, manual steering, A.M. radio, heater with air. I drove it for ten years before parting with it. Man that was the only car that I regret parting with.

My first year of driving in high school, I drove a couple of my Dad's cars..'84 Ford Escort diesel and an '84 Town Car Cartier series. My first new car I got for my 17th birthday, an '87 Mustang GT which I still have. For college, I got an '86 Mustang LX 2.3 notchback then an '88 Bronco II for grad school.

Wow! Not bad for a first car!

Mine was a ten year old '67 Belvedere with the indestructible "Leaning Tower of Power" 225 slant six. I loved that car. B)

1962 Ford. 292 auto. Bought it from parents for 50 bucks. That was a very good car. Mom had it 3 years, pops then for 2 then me for 2. That car never gave me a problem.

A 1970 Ford Maverick... straight 6, full of Bondo, & burning oil big time. Paid $175, from my neighbor. I put some air shocks on it, and stoopid me had 'em aired up full !? I loved that old beater!

First was a '62 VW sunroof, followed after one year by a '65 Buick Special 2-door sedan. I wish I had THAT one back. #3 was a '69 SS/RS Camaro. Wish I had that one back, too.

1972 Duster with 225 slant. i actually blew it up when a truck threw its front drivers hubcap. It came into my lane, under the car and severed the oil pan and oil filter. it went boom a few seconds later.

I bought mine from a junkyard for $200.00. rebuilt the engine in auto mechanics class in high school & had it repainted the next summer. Drove it until I graduated, which is when I bought my second car. A 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix which I still own & have just begun the long expensive task of restoring.

My first car was a '63 Chevy Impala 4dr hardtop, dark brown, 283 v-8, w 2-speed tranny. What a dog! Had a lot of fun in that car. Interestingly my wife's first car was a '63 Chevy Impala 4dr sedan, white, 350 small block, (her brother put it in after blowing up the original 283) with 2-speed tranny. I totaled mine in an accident in an unmarked intersection, and hers caught fire when a fuel line came loose driving down the highway. Sure do miss those old cars....

The first one I bought was a 1991 VAZ-2104 Lada Station Wagon I bought from my father. Dream about her every day. It's the only car I regret selling.

If the car was so good, why did I sell her? Well, the importers never bothered getting a parts supply. Finding a brake disk pad, a spark plug, or a original oil filter was a pain. When a rock broke one of the headlights I took almost a month to find one.

If only I knew, I could get plenty of parts from Uruguay or Argentina, I wouldn't had sold my little Lada. Never. That was before I got into computers and internet.

1973 Ford Capri bought used in 1978. It had the 88 raging horsepower 2 litre motor, and a 4 speed. Great little car - had a blast in it. There was a Datsun 510 driver or two in San Diego that seemed pretty impressed with it. Traded it in on a used 1979 Mustang Ghia 5.0 in 1981.

The first car I bought was a 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5. Massive 1600 cc, 5 speed manual, no A/C, no power anything. I treated it like a mini RV, lived in it for over a year and it took me to 43 of the 50 states. The thing thought it was a Jeep, I drove all over mountain logging roads, and it went in snow almost like a 4WD. The tranny finally went at 275K, but it had a hard life and served me well. Here is the model I made of it.

1973 camaro. Still have it. Small block 406, 411s in the rear, rollbar, and a real kick in the pants. I love that car. I really like rolling through the grocery store parking lot around 2000 rpm, setting car alarms off. Good times!

I bought a slightly used 1989 Toyota Tercel in 1990. I owned it for 8 years and put more than 200,000 miles on it before deciding it was time for something else.

My first car was after highschool. Had a motorcycle earlier. Hard to take girls on dates in the rain and winter months. Back to the car. It was a 61 austin healy "bugeye" sprite. Had plexiglass slide open removable side windows. Wasn't much better that cycle in the winter(at least the cycle would start). Got to know all the city bus drivers by there first names during the winter. But when it ran my dates did stay dry (and somewhat warm). After two winters I traded for a Simca 1000. It had real rollup windows and a heater that worked all the time. Met my wife with it. Richard

When I graduated from high school in 1964 my uncle gave me his 1955 Chevy 210. The first car I actually bought was a Datsun 240-Z, new in 1971. Had a lot of fun with that car, sure wish I still had it.
