Junkman Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Do Americans not stop and offer help, when someone just had a serious accident?
Atmobil Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Do Americans not stop and offer help, when someone just had a serious accident? That's what I'm wondering aswell.
Harry P. Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Do Americans not stop and offer help, when someone just had a serious accident? 1. How do you know nobody stopped to help? 2. How do you know this happened in America?
peter31a Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Happened in Canada as there is a Petro Canada station in the vid. Too short to tell if someone stopped.
Lordmodelbuilder Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Looks like someone forgot to bolt in the suspension. Hope nobody was hurt.
Tom Geiger Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Actually Americans are wary to stop and offer assistance anymore. Too many times the accident or break down is a ruse to rob you! And now a days nobody is truly stranded. Everyone has a cell phone to call for help. Most folks have AAA cards with free towing. I make sure all my women folks carry the card.
Quick GMC Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Do Americans not stop and offer help, when someone just had a serious accident? I wouldn't consider this a serious accident A lot of people do stop, but a lot of people also stop to gawk and take pics.
Chuck Most Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Do Americans not stop and offer help, when someone just had a serious accident? Assuming nobody actually did stop and offer help (since the vid cuts off just after the car does its impersonation of The Wonderful One-Hoss Shay).... 1. The guy hit the gas and took off at a rather high rate of speed- he was doing a pretty good job gaining on the traffic in front of him. I'd be willing to guess he just blew through a red light. 2. He was passing on the right. That's just plain idiotic in pretty much any circumstance. 3. He didn't have enough sense to make sure he had the little things taken care of... like a properly installed rear axle, for instance. So, in short... stopping to help someone like that would be interfering with natural selection.
Harry P. Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Do Americans not stop and offer help, when someone just had a serious accident? Is your rear axle falling off an "accident?" Or the result of some really, really bad "DIY" work?
Fat Brian Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I've stopped to help a few times when it's obvious an accident actually happened but I won't for a random stopped car, you just never know anymore if you're going to get robbed or shot for trying to assist someone.
Rob Hall Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) Could have been rusted out underneath and the axle fell off... As far as not stopping, it didn't look like an injury accident, the guy can call AAA (or Canadian equivalent if it was Canada) himself to get a tow... Edited May 21, 2015 by Rob Hall
Harry P. Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Could have been rusted out underneath and the axle fell off... Yeah, right. That's a real common occurrence...
Rob Hall Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Yeah, right. That's a real common occurrence... Salt corrosion..happens in the rust belt. Back in the '80s my brother had a $50 '73 Ford LTD Brougham and it's rear axle fell off while driving. The mounts rusted off. That was a month after the radiator fell out..
Maindrian Pace Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 There were no leaf springs to contain the rear axle, so it was probably a four link. Possibilities? Grade nothing bolts, bad setup with bolts in single shear, or bolts run through with loose or likely no nuts at all. Then Dart dude floors it, and all Dana breaks loose.
Drake69 Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Too much torque applied to a shadily built suspension = Looking at a pumpkin and rear axle with wheels still attached lying on the ground without a chassis.
ChrisBcritter Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Did the Pharoahs just initiate a new member, or were Wally and Eddie screwing around with Lumpy again?
slusher Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 i was thinking the guy ran the red light. I have a question, if the floor pan is seriously damaged would this just about total the Dart depending on condition???
blunc Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I keep hearing about people getting sued for anything that goes wrong while helping others....not a great incentive to help strangers.

Rob McKee Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I keep hearing about people getting sued for anything that goes wrong while helping others....not a great incentive to help strangers. In Canada we are protected by the Good Samaritan rule. A person who helps someone generally can’t be held responsible for damage caused by the help. This is called the "Good Samaritan rule". I think someone forgot to tighten up the bolts before the test drive.

Or, he used some cheapo no-grade U-bolts on the axle. You can get real dandies for trailers at Harbor Freight. Edited May 21, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
Maindrian Pace Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 Here's the actual version. I think you'll agree that it's smack-worthy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=099douUPsOE#t=35
