Crazy Ed Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 It's Funny. I watched the Show and really didn't care much for the truck, but I find myself looking forward to the next update to see what Curt has done next!
om617 Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Impressive work you put into this. Maby they give you the 1:1 to trade for the model?
curt raitz Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 Time to focus on the Fleetside pick up bed, sidewalls and tailgate. This is what I need to duplicate, too bad they didn't throw a tonneaux cover on the bed... First I cut out patterns in .010 plastic sheet for the front, sides and rear of the bed. Then glued them in place with CA glue, being careful not to glue my fingers to the model... Got'em in place and shot a primer coat over them. Just need to go in and clean up and finish it. Now onto the bonnet and engine compartment. thanx for looking'...
wayne swayze Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 This is a terrific endeavor! You're nailing it! Looking forward to your progress.
Foxer Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 really nice on the inside of the bed ... so little adds so much!
misterNNL Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I really like the direction this is heading. Thanks for sharing.
curt raitz Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Borrowed a method for using earth-magnets for displaying the hood opened and closed from my buddy Raul Perez. His method does not involve using a movable hinge, but steel wires fastened to the hinge that snap to earth-magnets mounted behind the firewall. Here's the hood with kit hinges and steel wires attached. Earth-magnets superglued to back of firewall... Steel wires from hood in contact with magnets... Hood closed... Hood opened... Scratch-built tail light assemblies... Everything primed and ready for some color.... Thanks for lookin'
kruleworld Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 awesome work. it's a joy to watch it come together.
gatorincebu Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I watched that that show when they did this build. And while I really like the end result. I really would have like them to build the donor truck into a cool ride. I like old panel trucks , sedan deliveries, and suburbans! Now for you build. As you are going to replicate the subject as accurately as possible. I think you will have a nice project. Which I will be following for info purposes. Be Well Gator
thatz4u Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 nicely detailed model, looks like the real truck, keep up the good work
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 WOW! This is an awesome build of an awesome build.
TimJ Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 This is coming along really well. Great work so far.
curt raitz Posted September 8, 2015 Author Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) Entering the last stages of completing this model. I added a rear bumper valance to the chassis, cleaned up some blemishes, etc on the front bumper valance and side steps. Masked the whole chassis so I could repaint these areas. The KinDigit design door handles were made by pressing milliput in the openings I carved in the doors, sanding them smooth, then bare metal foiled them. The Frenched headlight bezels were turned from 5/8" aluminum tubing, backed by aluminum sheet and used the headlight lens from the AMT '50 Chevy pick up kit. The tail lights were finished with bare metal foil and the lenses are 5 minute epoxy tinted red. Everything got painted, inserted the interior in the cab, rear windows & windshield installed plus a home made decal to represent the wood paneling in the bed. Just waiting to install the mirror, wipers and both bumpers to arrive from Chrome Tech. Edited September 8, 2015 by curt raitz
