Ended up picking one of these up at HL, just because I'd never managed to snag one of the previous releases either in a store or swap meets.

Really wish Round 2 had spent their retooling money to re-engrave the trim in the hood, rather than retool that hood scoop. (did they retool anything besides that?)  However, I still got one, despite knowing that...so maybe I'm the chump?

One of the reasons the hood trim isn't that great is the way the tool is designed. They had to allow some draft so the hood wouldn't  get stuck in the mold. It's always been faint from day one. I'm gonna buy at least one myself.

I had two early 80's versions of the kit, and it was faint in one issue, fainter still in the newer release. Sounds like a job for some Evergreen strip, regardless of which issue you get. Still a nice subject though, even if it will take some extra work to get the trim 100%.

A question I’ve always had about the Diamond In The Rough version of this ‘40 Ford. Did that version come with damaged fenders and broken windows? Or is that something you had to do? Modify the parts to represent the damage? Looking at instructions online, I’m confused on this point. I’ve never seen the actual “Diamond In The Rough” version of the kit. I have the “undamaged” version of AMT’s ‘40 Ford sedan. I’ve always wondered if the Diamond In The Rough was worth pursuing for a damaged, beat up version?

On a side note. I’m wondering when Round 2 will ever get around to reissuing there old “All Star” 1/32 scale Ford?

Diamond in the Rough version included some pre-damaged parts: broken glass, different fender unit with one separate running board and front fender, pre-bent bumpers.  The undamaged parts were not included.

The 1/32 '32 Ford has been reissued. I picked one up at HL a year or so ago. Wish I had grabbed two!

My memory of the Diamond in the Rough '40 Ford is the same as Mark's. I wish they'd reissue the kit, I haven't built one since the one I got as a Christmas present in the 80s!

Six of the eight 1/32 scale “All Star” kits have been reissued. The only two that have not are the ‘40 Ford sedan and the “Indy “500” Winner.” I’ve purchased and built the other six as they were reissued. I liked these kits a lot. I suspect others were not that enamored with them. Some of the six reissues are still very easy to find. Making me doubt we’ll see the other two again. Or any of AMT’s great 1/43 scale that first appeared in the late 60’s. Or the great Lindberg Mini-Lindys, where I suspect the “new” AMT 1/64 scale garage comes from.

Scott, I have a Diamond in the Rough kit that came to me in a mystery box, unbuilt that I would be happy to let go of. However, its possible it's missing pieces, but it appeared to have the Diamond specific parts still there.

Gee, I really hadn’t thought about buying one. I just more curious than anything else. But, if the price is right, the parts are there for the “rough” sedan, I may consider it. I really don’t need the truck or trailer though.

I've seen several posts about the weak trim and I agree. But, it's super easy to fix. Just sand away the old trim and replace it with .020 styrene rod.

Now that is cool. It maybe worth adding one to my collection. I like the damage I’m seeing in these parts.

Because of the above photo, I went on eBay a purchased a new, sealed “Diamond In The Rough” kit. Jason I thank you for your kind offer. But, I wanted to make sure all the parts are there. And Allen, I guess I’m “stuck” with another trailer. Though that’s okay. I guess I can build another one. (So others, out there, do not ask if I will be willing to give up the trailer.) (Or the truck for that matter.)

Thank You for your sacrifice. Round2 Should announce the release of this kit shortly. After all, except for the Unique parts for the "Rough" bits, all three kits have been out recently.

About 46 hours after ordering it, I got my Diamond In The Rough kit delivered to my front porch. That was quick service both by the seller, and postal service. I’m pleased.

Looking in the box, I’m also pleased with what I found inside. I really liked the damaged ‘40 Ford. Especially the broken and shot glass. And the bend bumpers. Very Kool! The kit also includes a real metal chain. I’m not sure what that’s for? I see nothing in the instructions indicating its use. Still it’s kool anyway. I love this kit. I’m surprised it’s only been released the one time. And that has been 36 years ago already!

The ‘53 truck and the trailer look like pretty straight forward, standard releases of those two kits. Nothing special. But, good kits and always welcome to the collection.

I’m also pleased to say, that despite the tires just being thrown in box loosely where they could damage other parts. Especially the glass, also in the box unprotected. There was no tire burn that I could see on anything!

I'd be interested it this if nobody else has claimed it. Would you be interested in a trade? PM me.

I wonder where the "Diamond" tooling is now?  I wonder if there would be enough interest in running a '40 Sedan with the Rough parts as a 2'n1 kit, as  Stock or Beater car. Might be worth a look, if the tooling is handy. Throw in some spray painted number decals and you could call it a Demolition Derby car. With the pre-wrecked parts, the right Box Art & Decals, and some creative selling, you could have an all new kit. As a Bonus, add in the 4 wheel trailer, and you have a diorama in a box.
