69NovaYenko Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 (edited) Dropped in on my LHS a few day before Christmas and while I was there they showed me a flyer for soon to be released `65 Plymouth Hemi Super Stock "Melrose Missile". Does anyone have any additional info on this kit. I just love the `60ties thru early `70ties Pro-Stock-Super Stock cars. I excited to see that these tye of cars are being kited once again. I was also noticing that the flyer had BOTH Moebius and Model King logos..so I assume the two companies are teaming to get this kit to market. Edited December 27, 2015 by 69NovaYenko
Mark Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 It should be a hardtop. The '65 Melrose Missile wasn't a Super Stock car very long; it soon became an altered-wheelbase F/X car, and later a roofless "roadster".
10thumbs Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 The Melrose Missile. That sounds cool. What an icon.I remember Super Stock and Drag Illustrated had great Mopar full page color ads on the back cover. Like, this car idles at 45mph.! I think it was even the Missile.
skymnky721 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 (edited) wow,,Ill have to do the "flatop" version,,that hauler truck would be a cool addition to the whole deal also. Edited December 27, 2015 by skymnky721
Mike Chernecki Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 (edited) I hope at some point Moebius does an altered wheelbase afx version. Edited December 27, 2015 by Mike Chernecki
chopper430 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 wow that's new to me when does it come out?
Mr mopar Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 (edited) That is super cool! Dose this mean Moebius is going to do some cool Mopar muscle cars ? Would love to see a 68'Coronet rt. Edited December 27, 2015 by Mr mopar
69NovaYenko Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 (edited) wow that's new to me when does it come out? My LHS folks said they had already placed an order for a couple but had not gotten a shipment date confirmation from his wholesaler. Maybe Tim Boyd might have a better line on a release date...how about it Tim got an info on this one. :-) Edited December 27, 2015 by 69NovaYenko

Only broadly that more versions of the basic kit tool are planned, of which this is apparently one of them. I believe I read on another board that the Missile kit is planned for sale early next year. Best regards...TIM
69NovaYenko Posted December 28, 2015 Author Posted December 28, 2015 Tim thanks for the reply...well keep us posted as things develop. :-)
afxmustang Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Chrysler had four cars prepared for the 1965 NHRA Winternationals to run in A/FX because the NHRA wouldn't let the AWB cars run in that class. They had acid dipped bodies, carbs and a 2% altered wheelbase. They ran A/FX. The Super Stock cars were two door sedans. They were run by the Ramchargers, Color Me Gone, Golden Commandos and Melrose Missile. All were later converted to the full altered wheelbase cars. I would guess this model represents one of those cars. Edited January 6, 2016 by afxmustang
jjsipes Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Sean Svendsen has photos on his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/svensworldofwheels/timeline of pictures of the prototype model. Have to say it looks awesome. Can not wait to get my hands on this.
Bob Ellis Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Kudos to Moebius and Model King, Nice kit offering.
gtx6970 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 I see the kit has a 4 speed shifter. yet an automatic trans . Anyone know how the actual car was ran back then .I've looked thru all my old magazines and found nothing on this particular car
High octane Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Groan, another kit I'm gonna "hafta" buy as the mid-60's was my favorite time period to be at the drag strips. I'll probably just add it to the "pile" as I have other projects I'm currently workin' on.
Dave Metzner Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) The kit is a hardtop - it will have side windows with the sedan door frames,if the builder wants to eliminate vent windows he can install those windows. The body will have stock Satellite chrome trim - for an accurate version of the race car that trim will also need to be removed..It will have automatic transmission and correct pedals / shifter for that transmission.Unfortunately, there are some photos out there that do not show final version of built-up model. This is a problem with releasing early photos of test shots or box art models as changes do occur before the finished product hits shelves. The finest point is its correct , factory-delivered exhaust system ! Kudos for that alone ! Keep 'em coming , Dave . You guys are doing it right !
Daddyfink Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 From what I have read, only one Dodge and one Plymouth ran a 4 Speed and that was Dave Strickler in a Dodge and Butch Leal in a Plymouth, The rest where 727 equipped cars.
