Pete J. Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Model season never really ends in So Cal That is the truth, although it has on occasion been too hot in August to work in the garage. I guess the "off season" is a couple of days long here. Of course that also applies to the gardening season here too. Do I build a model or mow the lawn? I so confused !
unclescott58 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 For me the model season gets moving more with warmer weather. At times it just gets too cold in my basement where I paint. So good painting weather is on its way back!
Greg Myers Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 so when you come in for the evening, turn off the TV.
chunkypeanutbutter Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Gotta do some reselling and get money for the Ranger.Hope is to have it done by August, with a V8 in a 2WD frame...Modeling will take a back, yet still accessible, seat during this upcoming summer.
tbill Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 i tend to build all year round, i get most of my building done on weekend mornings, late evening, so good weather doesn't keep me from the bench too much.
Jantrix Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Frankly. Most of us regulars are of a minority. We stick to a chosen hobby for the long haul. Most people I know go through many many hobbies and interests. My wife is like that. Every time I'll dump a $100+ in her new interest and she's at it for a season or two and then it gets shoved in a corner and she never touches it again.
Eshaver Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Maybe it's over for you folks in the warmer climates . The warmer months for me allows me to do a great deal of work outdoors and that includes SMELLY Fiberglass work ! This is a 1-24th scale model of the "Former " Fish Inn . it was on Hwy 10 in Core de Adleline Idaho . A grease fire took it out in 1992 .
junkyardjeff Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 Its not quite over just yet as its raining and will be for most of the weekend so I will be in the basement trying to finish the Chevy stepside, after mid april I will be in the garage much more.
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 It's really just getting going for me. It's been so cold in my forever-under-renovation house (averaging around 50 degrees F) I haven't felt much like sitting at the bench for more than a few minutes at a time...even though I put a space heater under it to make it one of the warmest places in the house. Since the weather's warming up, I've been able to shoot some primer outside, and it's not too uncomfortable in here any more either.
junkyardjeff Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 I have decided to get all the models I started in color so they can be assembled over the summer.
martinfan5 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 That is the truth, although it has on occasion been too hot in August to work in the garage. I guess the "off season" is a couple of days long here. Of course that also applies to the gardening season here too. Do I build a model or mow the lawn? I so confused ! pffft, come back to me when your garage is still in the 100's in late Oct
Pete J. Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 pffft, come back to me when your garage is still in the 100's in late Oct Oh I remember Going the IPMS nats in Phoenix some time back and was walking from the restaurant(or was it the bar, I can't remember) at 11 at night and it was 113 out. That is what keeps me in SoCal.
Helix Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I build all year round and always seem to find time for other things Summer has just finished here and now it's Autumn (Fall) So I look forward to the change in weather, because this summer has been a real stinker
Deathgoblin Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I build all year round. I live in an apartment, so I don't have a yard to take care of. I also don't own an old car (WISH I DID!) to maintain before the summer. I miss my old cars.
Lizard Racing Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 It's just too bad life has to get in the way of more important pursuits, like model building.
Foxer Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 The season never ends here, but you'll never tell by my production in under glass. I'm down in the basement shop when I want to, out in the snow or sun when I want to, and everything else ... when I want to. Life is good in retirement. It's like being 16 again and in summer vacation year round!
Tom Geiger Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Frankly. I remember a statistic that the average model builder sticks with it 18 months. That meant that the model companies could rotate the old tools every 2-3 years and they'd be brand new to the hobby shop crowd.
GeeBee Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Spring is on it's way over here, so the modelling room will be closed so I can crack on with cleaning and detailing the Cruiser, and hopefully make time to get out with the cameras and earn a little more cash,
unclescott58 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 so when you come in for the evening, turn off the TV. I rarely turn it on. And when do, I tend to fall asleep.
Ramfins59 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Yes, as has been said, being an old retired guy with a lot of time on my hands means that my model building "season" never really ends. It may slow down now and then, but it never really ends.
junkyardjeff Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 My modeling season will probably expand when I retire but I still have over 10 years unless I hit the lottery.
Phirewriter Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Modeling never ends... I usually have even a little time to poke around at a kit and make notes for a future project or get a few things glued, painted or just moved forward. I have other pursuits that I try to put a little time into everyday. Helps to walk away from the TV or the computer too. (As I sit here posting to the message board) It's too easy to be distracted by our electronic gizmos.
Roadrunner Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Up here on the frozen tundra, I am already thinking of planting my garden.Tomatoes, radishes and a few other goodies for me, next month. I could do it now, but want to enclose the area beforehand.
Roadrunner Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I tend to do just as much (or as little) modeling in the summer, as I do in winter.
charlie8575 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 I build year-'round, largely because I tend to do a lot of my painting in spring and summer during the evening when the weather is agreeable. This reminds me, I need to get moving on my NNL-East project.Charlie Larkin
