crazyjim Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Not doing anything for me either. How about a tube grille?
ChrisBcritter Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 There's also the old trick of removing every other horizontal bar for an eggcrate look.
blunc Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 how about this?a 56 corvette grille cross bar or a 53 chevy grille crossbar...similar but different.set it back in the opening to give it some depth and reduce the "in your face" chrome-teeth aspect...
jjsipes Posted May 26, 2016 Author Posted May 26, 2016 Small update. Got a coat of white primer on body after a good sanding. Possible tire and wheel choice. Chrome steel and white walls from AMT 62 Catalina Color choice on chassis. Tamiya Light Metallic Blue. Love the blue will look great with pearl white panel in place of rear side windows. Shaved the bumpers and got a coat of primer on them. Thinking about lake pipes as well, not sure though. Still trying to come up with a possible custom grille though.

Looks like you've got it under control! All great choices! The wheels are a terrific choice, but I personally might opt for something with a little wider white wall. Steve
slusher Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 Real nice choices on the wheels, tires, bumpers, and beautiful color. The AMT 57 Chevy kit has a couple custom grills and the AMT 49 Ford kit has a couple custom grills if you have those kits..
Sledsel Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I am liking it so far. The Desoto grill would be good if the teeth were installed straight. Try an AMT 56 Ford front bumper. The Chevy bumper just looks to big and clunky.
jjsipes Posted May 27, 2016 Author Posted May 27, 2016 No matter what I do with the grille, I willcut out the stock one. With the Desoto grille, I just placed over top of the stock to try and get an idea what it would look like. I did have an "In your Face" look about it that way but just didn't want to cut stock up yet. I did find this picture of Ron Luchs "Miss Taboo" that was restored in 2011 i believe. It had a 54 Chevy grille and 57 Chrysler headlights. Here's a link with more info on "Miss Taboo" http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Ron_Luchs'_1956_Chevrolet
espo Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 As Andy H mentioned the front bumper looks to big. The bumper its self is not so bad as the splash pan between the grill and bumper is just to large. What I have done on '56 Chevy builds is to shorten the splash pan, this brings the bumper much closer to the grill. The bumper wraparounds will then be into the front wheel opening and will also need to be reshaped. This is how the big guys do it.

jjsipes Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 I gota Tuck n Roll Interior packa from Ed Fluck for a 57 Chevy and will modify it to fit Nomad. This resin kit is very nice. Looks amazing. Very clean. 57 Bel Air Tuck n Roll door panel to a stock 56 Nomad panel comparsion. I think I might have found a custom grille to use as well. I found an older 57 Chevy Bel Air kit as Slusher suggested that had a few custom grilles in it. Found a tooth grille that looks similar to the grille posted earlier in "Miss Taboo". Stock grille with custom tooth grille below Overlay of tooth grille
espo Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 That grill should work great. Like the Tuck n Roll interior. With the sedan delivery you will never see the window frame dip.
jjsipes Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Got the resin tuck n roll passenger side door panel modiied from a 57 Bel Air to match the shape for the 56 Nomad. Didn't really realize how different they are. The dash location, shape is different, the door tops are different, even the height of the panels are slightly different. I sanded the rounded door tops smooth and rescribed the tuck n roll up to the top of the panel then cut the panel tops of kit panel and sanded down top of resin panel to get the height that I needed, wasn't much. Glued the kit door panel top on resin panel. Then held up the kit panel and marked for the dash cut out and glued that onto the resin panel. Had to shorten the panel in the kick panel (front) area as well. Here is a picture of the modified and "stock" '57 door panels Edited June 2, 2016 by jjsipes
jjsipes Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Got the stock rear seat bottom cut out and the tuck n roll rear seat in place. Took a little to much out on the wheel wells. Need to add some back I think.
mod3l Lover Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 That look great, and I love that blue on thechassis' color for sure. David S.
jjsipes Posted June 7, 2016 Author Posted June 7, 2016 Been thinking about paint again on this project. Any thoughts, just a pearl white panel or the whole roof from beltline up pearl white?
TarheelRick Posted June 7, 2016 Posted June 7, 2016 The '56 Chevrolet is probably the most beautiful Chevrolet ever built - In My Humble (but obviously correct) Opinion. This sedan delivery is one beautiful piece of work. The '53 grille should look alright, but again, I really like the stock grille. One thought on that rear seat; with this being a sedan delivery there would probably not have been a rear seat, only a flat floorboard from the back of the front seat to the tailgate - just a thought. Keep those updates coming, I am really liking the looks of this one.
jjsipes Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Took the plunge and cut the stock grille out to see what it would look like with the tooth grille.
Dogfish_7 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Can't wait to see more and you can't go wrong with Ed's interior!
jjsipes Posted June 14, 2016 Author Posted June 14, 2016 Paint has started to be sprayed. Got it primed, based in White, and got the pearl white on the roof. Tomorrow hoping I can get the blue sprayed. Got the interior pieces primed as well. Waiting on an orer from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland for engine work.
