Russell C Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 (edited) 1/32 scale Hawk Apache Sports Roadster, got it cheap off eBay, single bid. Missing the front valance and one wheel/tire, and the crank for the rubber band is cut in half and solidly glued into place in such a way that I guess it was intended to look like an exhaust pipe. My speculation turned out to be true, the body width and basic midsection height is about the same as a 25th scale Shelby Cobra. Open up the hole for the interior, and a 25th scale one could drop right in ….. so you see where I might be going in a WIP sometime in the future for a fun. relatively easy curbside project. Widening the roof might involve a bit of artful design work, though. Edited October 29, 2020 by Russell C fixed busted link
styromaniac Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 First model I ever entered in a contest was the Monogram Little T...about 55 years ago when it was a new kit. Didnt do too bad, won second place Jr division. Have always liked that kit, the last few years I went on EBay searching for the original issue kit with six carbs and wide white bigs and littles with baby moons ....to revisit those formative modeling years. Mint '64 editions were just about impossible to find so I ended up buying 4 or 5 partially built or completed glue bombs at reasonable prices to cobble together at least one buildable kit. I noticed every one I bought had a front suspension that was a glued up mess, requiring a massive effort at restoration. After many stops and starts I finally completed it yesterday morning to enter it in the N Va IPMS Model Classic that afternoon. The result? Another second place finish...in the "Out of the Box" category. History repeats itself.

Yep, and I have a roof from the T-bird, favoring that basic look. Drop the 289 roof onto int and it becomes more of the Hawk Bobcat version. We'll see, but I might also just put a widening strip into the Apache roof, too.

David G. Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 I found this Jo Han 67 Toronado at the most recent Desert Scale Classic. It's actually a decent build. There is some damage to one of the hubcaps and front suspension but otherwise seems to be complete. I plan on tearing into this one as soon as I decide what color I want to paint it. David G.
Hotrod 97 Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 I got these from a friend not too long ago. The '69 Shelby is gonna take a bit of work - the glue from the windshield/rear window piece is making the roof sink in places. Everything seems to be there except for some engine parts on the '71.

That's pretty nice. I would consider just cleaning up and "rescuing" it as-is rather than rebuilding/repainting it, but it might look worse in 3D than it does in your pictures.

It's not too bad, but I could do it better. Much of the paint has a texture rather like a vinyl top and I think it would take more work to polish it down than to strip and repaint it. Besides, I think it would look much better in a rich sapphire blue with a white interior. David G.

I have an unbuilt AMT ( Johan), and an MPC 67 Toronado to build. In my research, I found photos of a gorgeous turquoise car. That's the one I'm going to do.

Still, if it were mine, I'd try to polish it a little and see what happened, then hit it with my beloved Silver Sharpie and some other Snake-Fu and set it on the shelf until the day came when I got in the mood to strip it down and completely re-do it.
Snake45 Posted May 5, 2019 Author Posted May 5, 2019 My latest Glue Bomb Junkyard purchase from eBay. Total price for the three, including shipping, was less than full retail on two current, common reissues. First up, '64 Chevelle wagon. Seems complete, no permanent damage, should paint strip nicely. Even the rare 6-cyl engine is present and looks usable. Next, original '65 Mustang HT/Convertible, with the optional vinyl hardtop installed. Again, seems to be complete, strippable, and very restorable. Finally, an AMT annual '65 Vette roadster, amazingly with the windshield frame intact and the windshield re-usable. Hold your calls please; another board member has already sweet-talked me out of this one. I'll hate to see it go but he's a good guy who's done me a couple favors and I owe him some good karma. (I'm keeping the nonstock wheels and tires, though.)
Oldcarfan27 Posted May 5, 2019 Posted May 5, 2019 (edited) Just recieved this one from Ewetwo (thanks, Dave). Body and miscellaneous parts. As well as a rear bumper from Vintageslotcars (many thanks, James) Watch where this one ends up.... And after stripping off the layers of paint. Notice a big chunk taken out of the rockers due to thinning from the lower character styling line being sanded away and the side quarter strakes being opened up to one big scoop instead of two. I plan on using a reissue 65 to complete most of it and scratchbuilding missing things like the A-pillars, taillights, bug-eyed headlights, strake splitters, mirrors and other minor stuff. Stay tuned. Edited May 5, 2019 by Oldcarfan27
