philo426 Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 i think you guys are talking about the burgandy '60 Pontiac.that is part of his sig and I do not think he intends to be offensive. It is a cool model after all.)
MrObsessive Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 As others have said, every once in a while, I'll post a pic of something I built on someone else's thread to make a point. In fact, there's '59 Buick thread going on right now that I may post a pic of the one I did to illustrate how mine looks with the stock wheels. I do find it kinda annoying though when someone will post a pic of something they did on someone else's thread "because they can" and it's to no point other than to sorta show off the same build. Some may not see it that way, but that's a bit of a thread hijack to me. What I may do in lieu of posting a pic directly on their thread, is post a link to where the model is located, and they can choose to click on it or not. That way it's not seen each time someone visits the WIP and see my model there. Sigs are a different matter........I don't mind someone's model in their sig as that's well...........their signature! I have my Challenger as my avatar each time I post...........will someone get uptight because they're building a model of a white Challenger and I comment?
unclescott58 Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) One of the many reasons why I just went ahead and turned signatures off; being bombarded with the same images or bylines day after day, gets just a bit tiring. How do you turn off signatures. I can find nothing in the settings for this site allowing one to so. Edited May 28, 2016 by unclescott58

But, I'm tired of seeing it all of time. I don't see anybody else using something like that as a signature. An avatar is one thing. Bill and his Challenger are fine. In fact the '60 Pontiac would make a great avatar. And I have suggested that to him. But, his avatar is his uncle's car, and the Pontiac was his dad's. So says he needs to display both.I do want to point out that in the grand scheme of things the above really doesn't matter me. Let him have his Pontiac as his signature. I'm willing to go by the will of the community. Since the rest of you are okay with it. I'll live with it. I'm just tired of seeing it all the time. I do feel it's rude, and his attitude selfish about why he has to do it. I especially do not care for it when I do go to look at someone else's model.I've said my share on the subject. And I will live with it.
philo426 Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Yes the mods are pretty fair..If they deem it acceptable than I guess it is ok.I like it so there is no problem that I see.
Daddyfink Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I am guilty of posting my builds on someone else's thread, but not to show off, just sharing that I build one as well. Looks like I will stop doing that from now on.My problem is when some start a personal conversation that does not involve the original poster or the subject matter.
unclescott58 Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) Account Settings>Signatures Uncheck boxI'm not finding it in settings boxes. Unless your talking about changing your own personal account. With others, it looks like I have to look at what ever they use for their signatures or block them completely. I'm not interested in blocking one anyone. Whether I like or dislike there signatures, or opinions. I'm a big boy. I can live with things I don't care for. Edited May 28, 2016 by unclescott58
Xingu Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 You cannot block individual signatures, it is all or nothing. I believe you can ignore individuals and will no longer see some or all of their posts. Have never used it, so not sure what the options are.
gtx6970 Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Account Settings>Signatures Uncheck boxjust did that.Thanks . i wasnt awarei could do it
Xingu Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 The only thing I don't like about big signatures like that, is the amount of space it takes up and the extra scrolling I have to do.
peekay Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Very confusing. If you're "okay with it" then why use confrontational words like "rude" and "selfish"? Why even bring it up in the first place?

I believe you can ignore individuals and will no longer see some or all of their posts. Have never used it, so not sure what the options are.Right, you can ignore/block individuals if you choose, and I've done this on another site, but not here yet, or as was the case here, I just turned off all signatures. I don't see any signatures at all, not even my own.
RancheroSteve Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I am guilty of posting my builds on someone else's thread, but not to show off, just sharing that I build one as well.Same here - I've done it, but never with the intent to grandstand or show off, but to answer a question or illustrate a point if possible - so I hope it comes off that way. I try to do it sparingly and be sensitive about it. I'd listen if someone tells me otherwise.

I'd listen if someone tells me otherwise.I agree.I've never intended to "hijack" anyone's thread.I guess we can't all know what may or may not "offend" someone else.I've always welcomed anything & everything that anybody cared to post on any of my threads.Whether it's posting their build of the same model to show me how they did it, reference photos or whatever. As far as I'm concerned, you don't learn anything by limiting information. So let me just end by saying, if it bothers people, I will refrain from doing it in the future. But I welcome all comers on any of my threads!Post to your hearts content!I want to see any information that you have to offer! unclescott58 Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 What's confusing about it? Can't you have a conflict with someone an still be okay? There are lots of people out there that I disagree with on certain things. Or even plain dislike. There are people who don't agree with or like me. All of that is okay. Why use the words "rude" and "selfish"? In conversions on the subject we've been talking here, that's how I felt the person came off when I confronted him. My perception. Others may not have seen it that way. I can be okay with that. Nothing that person is doing, right or wrong, is a big deal in the large scheme of things. He's posting a picture of a model on a model website. I may not like the way he's doing it. But, who really cares? It's does not hurt me in the long run.

I believe you can ignore individuals and will no longer see some or all of their posts. Have never used it, so not sure what the options are. There is a much easier way to block the signature line and yes Michael, this option will also allow you to block INDIVIDUAL signatures as well. If you look under the thin grey line that separates the signature from the post, just under where the "+" and blue highlighted "quote" is for quoting posts or multiple posts, follow that line all the way over to the right of the screen. You will find a light grey "X" and a light grey down arrow that look almost like the "down" arrow on your keyboard except looks like a solid upside down triangle, and you will only find it on member's posts that have a signature. You simply move your mouse into the signature area of that member and the "X" and triangle will become a dark grey, then move your mouse to the "X" and triangle, and a black box will appear will "IGNORE SIGNATURE PREFERENCES" in it. Using Michael's signature as an example (sorry, your post was the one I was reading when I noticed this ), when you left click on the "X" and triangle another box will appear with two choice boxes, and again just using Michael's as an example, "HIDE XINGU'S SIGNATURE" or "HIDE ALL SIGNATURES". Click on the choice you want and say "BYE BYE" to either one member's signature or everyones!

Skip Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 If it's in the "On the Workbench" section, invited, then it's probably OK. I would ask permission first. If it's in the "Under Glass" section, unless it is invited, then it is in poor form, image or large signature image. The signature in discussion, in my opinion is in poor form due to the image's sheer size. It is so large that it competes with the original poster's pictures. If I remember correctly the builder had an under glass feature, if we wanted to see large pictures of the buildup then we could refer to them. I would have zero issue if it were reduced in size to say that of a normal avatar. It is on the minor irritant level for me, as are a few other posters constant negative "humor"; since I have no control over either I choose to ignore the posters bad taste or form.
peekay Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 For some reason I can no longer control the quote button, hence the blank post above. I won't try again.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Only time I got a little chapped when someone posted HIS model on my thread was a complete POS build that some of the reading-impaired or too-lazy-to-read thought was MY work. And like, who really cares anyway? Anybody with a brain knew the carpy one wasn't mine, and it just made mine look that much better. Yeah, I know. I'm an SOB.

Are you referring to sarcasm? I don't see a lot of that here, sarcasm that is.

And I will live with it. I am the person Uncle Scott is talking about, and I am not the only person who has a picture of a model here on the signature line. Scott, I know you are tired of seeing my model of my late father's Bonneville as my signature, and you know my feelings concerning the matter. Until the administrator of the board makes the request to me to remove it, then you know the rest. How about I do the following, I can stop posting if it is offensive to the people here on the board. I have been here a long time, and I have been mostly positive, but the comments on my signature is not the primary subject of the thread, but your pet peeve. Concerning the thread, I try to not post a picture of one of my modeling projects on someone else's thread, unless, they ask for an example of how I did a particular build. Concerning my threads, if someone has a comment, I invite them to chime in with opinions, suggestions, and photos of their model of the same, or similar subject. We are all friends here.
