afx Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 (edited) M&S Hobbies is releasing a resin curbside kit of this car, and from what I have seen it looks like a nice kit. However I wanted to try my hand at building this car with full detail. I personally feel the MPC kit of the Monza is the most accurate. AMT and Revell also offer their own versions. MPC dropped the ball however with the racing body panels, AMT’s version more accurately represent the 1:1. So starting with the MPC body I grafted on the AMT panels. Still lots of shaping and cleanup work to do along with adding the wrap-around rear spoiler but not a bad start. Edited July 28, 2016 by afx
louie Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Yeah, I like this. Looks like a lot of work but to me that's half the fun of building. Please keep us updated on your progress if you can. Thanks. Jeff
RancheroSteve Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 (edited) Looks like the start of another great one! Edited June 18, 2016 by RancheroSteve
mustang1989 Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Now this............I've gotta see!! Bring it on J.C.!!
Ron Hamilton Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 I saw it in person at our meeting, and I am quite impressed.
Dave Van Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Been tempted to try this since the 70's.....be watching!!!
Randy D Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 Will be following along JC. The body work to date is superb!! Randy
Perspect Scale Modelworks Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 This is definitely one to follow. Looks like the AMT panels fit perfectly on the MPC body. Any fitment issues? Sometimes there can be a slight difference in scale between different manufacturers.
afx Posted June 19, 2016 Author Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) Thank you gentleman for the comments. Fitting the AMT panels was no picnic but that may have been the easy part. The cars ran a full tubular chassis so lots of scratch building will be required. Edited June 19, 2016 by afx
afx Posted June 21, 2016 Author Posted June 21, 2016 Pleasantly surprised with how well the GTO chassis fits so far. Only had to cut down the width of the belly pan and reduce the roll cage height about 3mm.
superbike-shaun Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 very nice fab work, are you gonna keep it period correct, or add modern upgrades?

So amazed at your perfect cut lines/work etc... This is a killer project!
afx Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 Thanks Shaun, I like to build the cars as they raced or as close as I can. Thanks Brian.
Rider Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 (edited) I'll be pulling up a chair for this one. These cars rock. Great start. Edited June 22, 2016 by Rider
Rob Hall Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Very cool...I love the look of '70s road race cars..
