charlie8575 Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) I hope it's true, too. It wouldn't hurt to have a new, modern tooling "big" Buick V8, some Buik factory wheels, and other Buick-specific bits, either, in 1/25 scale. The 1/24 Monogram '70 Buick GSX kit the last all-new Buick kit I can recall, and I think that was in...*gulp* 199Don't 1. Don't forget AMT's new '66 Riviera c. 1999-2000. Casey Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Don't forget AMT's new '66 Riviera c. 1999-2000. Charlie Larkin Gah!...I did.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 And that '66 was gorgeous too - probably my favorite of the "Mueller Era" turn-of-the-millennium AMT tools. Great set of tires only ever used on the factory stock version of that kit. Makes me wish they'd work up a fresh '67 Eldo just to give 'em another home.Always been of the opinion that there's little to match the original for boldness and beauty, but I'll take a boattail or three please. Yes, early bumpers por favor. They did that 1/64 '71 low-rider diecast once upon a time, after all....
MrObsessive Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 From 1976-'78 when I was in high school in Oxon Hill Md, I got to get up close and personal to a '71-'72 Riviera practically all the time. We had a next door neighbor that had one in the driveway, and it was quite a nice car. Not the best color in the world-------I remember it being a silver/gray with a black vinyl roof. However, it was very nice to look at as there were so many things going on with the styling.........all for the good IMO.This type of car is what put GM on the map for so long---daring, bold designs that had no apologies for the way they looked. Think GM's '59 lineup and how polarizing that was to folks back when they debuted. Sure the '60 models were toned down a touch, but at least GM wasn't "playing it safe" like they do with a lot of their cars today.Of course, 1971 was a loooooong time ago, and government regs unfortunately have since dictated the shapes of cars. So no more "sharp edges", true four door hardtops, fins, etc.

One can only hope!
Daddyfink Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 But to Revell or AMT, please, no more of this!!!
Richard Bartrop Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 If it means more sales, and there's a stock version, I can live with it.

I absolutely agree with Jesse in principle, but, if it'll move plastic and I can still make a non-molested car out of it, I can work with it. Chariie Larkin
Richard Bartrop Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Or even a low-rider version, if that would broaden the appeal. I think donks look stupid, but there are people who like them. Whether there are enough out there to justify catering to them is a question for the marketing folks.
slusher Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 That's the first I've heard that, but I will say that particular car was one of the items listed on the "Wish List" that Revell had folks sign onto at the NNL East, that I posted about a while back. All I can say is how can you NOT love that boat-tail?? IMO, this is one of GM's better bright spots of the '70's and certainly one of Bill Mitchell's most daring designs. Love it or hate it, it's certainly an attention getter and I do remember these very well as a teen growing up back then when these were on the road. The lowrider crowd would be all over this! I say make it as a snapper with options to build a stock and a lowrider version. Leave it to us superdetail guys to go all out and set it apart. I'd build mine without the vinyl roof though.............looks better without it, or as a "day two" car with the half vinyl roof. That option didn't come along till '73 I think, but it complements the roofline all the better. I hope the rumors are true, but we'll just have to wait and see! My favorite Buick.
DaveM Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 This is about the only new kit that could separate me from my money any more. I have hit the point where I could build 24/7 for the rest of my life and not even make a dent in the stash. I would build a few Kustom Kemps, as well as my usual four or five factory stock variations.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 A sloppy slammer over a donk on its BEST DAY for me, but like y'all say, whatever shifts enough units to make it work...
SSNJim Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 This I would like to see more of. I don't think I've ever seen one of these chopped. Very different looking - I like this angle.
SSNJim Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 (edited) Found a frontal view. I think I like it.... Google "chopped purple Riviera" for more... Edited August 24, 2016 by SSNJim
randyc Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I had an uncle that had one of these in silver. I'd definitely like to see a stock version in plastic. Oh the cars of my youth...Randyc
Grid_88 Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 (edited) I have to say I don't really like the rear end of the car but I do like when they cut the front bumper and show off the amazingly cool grille/front end. Edited August 31, 2016 by Grid_88
Jonathan Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Not to be Debbie Downer here, but I'm guessing we'll see this right before we see the Academy Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. That said, I'd love to see this!

keyser Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 (edited) Love to see a 71-72. Silver Arrow 3 that Bob D working on cool too. Here's a couple pics, was Bill Mitchell's personal car while at GM. THread title always reminds me of Blazing Saddles scene, so clip from that too. http://www.youtube.com/embed/w0MyA4XKpK8 Edited August 31, 2016 by keyser pic problem
Chuck Kourouklis Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Now THAT is what I would call beautiful. I just like the DLO and drip molding sweep so much better on the Arrow...
ZIL 111V Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Very last Bill Mitchell daring design, a 1971/72 would be fantastic, sure that a 1/25th kit will be on the store shelves ONE day, WHEN??? by who? my guess: Revell,. will see...
