Modlbldr Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I finally finished this one. The paint job gave me fits. I had to strip the body and hood multiple times and spent over $ 45 in Tamiya paint, not to mention 3 cans of clear. I kept getting a reaction from the clearcoat so I would sand it out and then touch up the paint and reclear. Within a week I would get bubbling under the touch up spots from the coats below. So then I would strip and start over. Then at one point I dropped the freshly painted body off of the paint stand. Anywhoo.... it was a challenge. Here are the photos. http:// http:// http:// I heavily modified the suspension. I chopped the top, pancaked the hood, molded in the fender skirts from a 36 Ford, and molded in the hood vents from the Rat Roaster kit for the taillights. http:// Later-
JollySipper Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Super Nice! and something not usually done to a Willys.........

Modlbldr Posted September 17, 2016 Author Posted September 17, 2016 Thanks guys. It was a challenge. Funny thing is, the top chop was the easiest part of the whole build.Later-
Joe_Ofut Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 That's some fantastic attention to detail there!
crazyjim Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Never saw a Willys like that. Pretty cool build.
Modlbldr Posted September 18, 2016 Author Posted September 18, 2016 Thanks for all the nice comments. As i look at it now I see many things that i wish i had done (windshield wipers) or done better. (Panel lines). Oh well. Perhaps on the rebuild in twenty years. I forgot to include the inspiration for this build. I included it in the WIP section. http:// Later-
62pyro Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Great looking build. It's nice seeing a Willys done as something other than a gasser.
carrucha Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Looks good. Glad you stuck it out and finished it.
Joe Handley Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 Always thought that generation of Willys would make a great kustom.
Mr. Metallic Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Nicely styled build. I love the color too. I really like the idea of the taillights too.
Harry P. Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 Very nice all around. Just curious, though... why is the radiator offset and not centered?
unclescott58 Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Very cool. A very classy lookin Willys.
Modlbldr Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 I think that the whole front end got a little askew when I glued the chassis in. Didn't notice until glue had dried. Later-
Mad Slammer Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Really nice... Great paint and the mods too...
Modlbldr Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 Thanks everyone. It's encouraging.Later-
misterNNL Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Great custom Tom.I have a low rider bike I want to paint that same color. What did you use?
Modlbldr Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 Tom,Thanks a lot. I used Tamiya TS-60 Pearl Green. I think it is a great color. Later-
carman1 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 very nice and very different from the usual gasser, I like it a lot !
Tyler62990 Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Very nice build. That color suits this one perfectly. This is actually the second non-gasser Willys build I've seen this week. If a new trend is starting, I'm not complaining one bit lol
