mk11 Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1973-Chevrolet-Chevelle-Malibu-coupe-Pro-Built-1-25-/162220679368?hash=item25c51b20c8:g:HdgAAOSwPCVX7Anq&autorefresh=true 175 bucks bid and still not meeting reserve... hmmmm mike
StevenGuthmiller Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I always have to laugh a little when I see this "pro-built" nonsense. Obviously this seller has never seen what a "pro" can build. It definitely would not include this much orange peel & the crappy job on the trim! Just call it what it is. a built kit! Steve
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Just call it what it is. a built kit! ...painted with a roller.
Draggon Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 But it has AUTHENTIC 70's GM orange peel paint on it. What more could you ask for?
wrecker388 Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 If that guy is considered a pro I'd hate to see what 95% of this forum classifies as. I don't think I've ever seen a build on here with that much orange peel. I haven't even gotten that much orange peel before, and I consider myself mediocre at best. This guy would shoot flaming projectiles if he saw the work of people on this forum.
StevenGuthmiller Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 But it has AUTHENTIC 70's GM orange peel paint on it. What more could you ask for? Right, if oranges were the size of wrecking balls! Steve
The Creative Explorer Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 What I am more amazed about; who in the right mind bid 175 dollars for such a thing? To me it seems a joke, like they bid for fun on it. And what I am also wondered; how high is that freaking reserve?
russosborne Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I've got it. The seller is using that car as a drug mule. Only the buyer hasn't gotten around to bidding on it yet, maybe is in jail already. Russ
Sport Suburban Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I noticed the vinyl top too!Pro built has always made me laugh on eBay. Pros get paid for their work so every eBay sale is from a pro!
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 (edited) There's no shortage of delusional people in every field who truly believe their substandard work is exceptional, or "pro" quality. Almost every day I see something like this The perpetrators without exception apparently think it looks like this. I see carp passed off as "professional" and paid for (very often lotsa money) constantly in bodywork, paint work, engine tuning, upholstery and interior work, electrical work, carpentry, illustration, mechanical design...the list is endless. I don't understand. I probably never will. Edited October 6, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Draggon Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I don't understand. I probably never will. Me either. I was a construction equipment mechanic for almost 30 years. My boss called my work "meticulous"
Lunajammer Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Me either. I was a construction equipment mechanic for almost 30 years. My boss called my work "meticulous" I'm usually called "methodical." Which is boss speak (and GF speak) for "Quit wasting time on getting it right and just carp it out!"
randyc Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Hey, the seller is selling cars at a pretty good rate. Doesn't matter what we think of the build, only takes two bidders to like it. Or one and a shill, Either way, the builder is getting pretty reasonable money for the builds. I look at Paul Hettick's builds and see things I would have corrected had I built it, but he gets big money. Why all the hatin? We should be encouraged that there are people in thiis world that would buy our builds if given the chance. When was the last time any of us saw this Malibu in a kit or builtup that we could buy and display? Not everyone understands nor has the skills of a model builder. I get folks all the time tellingme there is no way they could do that. And there are buyers out there that have the money and want the car. I would take $25 for about any builtup I got and be happy with it at this point in my life. Randy
BigTallDad Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 ...painted with a roller. I was thinking more along the lines of a garden hose...
Harry P. Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I don't understand. I probably never will. It's easy. A lot of people have very low standards.
francesco Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 (edited) Hello honestly not worth all the money there is no visible engine Edited October 6, 2016 by francesco

RandyIt has nothing to do with who's buying them or how much money they bring, I just can't stand it when these dopes call the trash they churn out "pro-built".I think I do fairly good work on my projects, but I would never call them Pro-built."Pro" means professional. If building models is this guys profession, I would be surprised if he wasn't in the bread line.Just lay off the misleading terms, that's all I ask. Steve
bobthehobbyguy Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 I agree. That's why this ebay posting draw so much flack. besides the insult of calling this pro built are mediocre pictures. My god if you are going to sell things on ebay take some pride what you are posting. Particularly if you are trying to see it as professionally built.
Xingu Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Well, it doesn't say what profession he is a pro at. We do know that he is not a professional painter, photographer or model builder.
Can-Con Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 Well, it doesn't say what profession he is a pro at. We do know that he is not a professional painter, photographer or model builder. "professional wrestler" maybe ?
mk11 Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 (edited) Or maybe just a pro model seller... Interesting to look back at feedback. These three cars and suburban plus a rolls model went to the same buyer for an outlay of almost eighteen hundred bucks. Another '69 imp is showing sold earlier to the same bidder for five hundred. That one was listed as 'resin built' and the first one was 'resin pro built'. mike Edited October 6, 2016 by mk11

mk11 Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 That one was billed as a '75 Buick Regal and apparently sold for 450 mike
