Thanks Carl, Steve and Bruce.

I've got the firewall well under way and will start working on the brake master cylinder and brake lines in the upcoming days. Here's where I started with the firewall. The "hood hinge" HOLES were a freakin' eyesore!!! OMG it would have ruined the whole engine compartment!!
Here's what I'm talking about and what I started with:

and here's the "after" pic:

I'd rather have NO hinges than to see two gaping holes in the firewall. facepalm_zpsgaclnqrj.gif

As far as the grille is concerned. I had two grilles so I cut the "blank" side of the Z/28 grille on one and transferred it to the other grille. In theory..........it should have worked but the rake of the grille pattern is different when trying to mirror the opposing sides. It looks pretty good when giving a casual glance but it doesn't take too much "zooming in" to see that it's off and the grille of this car is a focal point and a "goof" there would give it a "bloody nose" soooooo.........I've ordered another kit in which to not only straighten this flaw out but to mock up another suspension so I can form and run my exhaust that'll be made from solder.

I haven't seen any if these kits in a very long time.Infact I Remeber building the High Roller, and the Rampage car,as a couple of my very first models that I built. It was way back, when I used to build models with my buddy. We would lay everything out on the kitchen table. We had to build on paper towel,or news paper.Cause if we got even one drop of glue on the table,my mother would throw a hissy fit.We never painted the bodies,..That would not be for a couple of years later.I don't know, just some weird memories,to say the least..::lol:

Thanks for the comments everybody. Hadn't had a chance to work on this one since Friday. Just too dang much going on at the house over the weekend plus I developed a pulled muscle in my dang neck from a SNEEZE of all things. Really put a damper on my rest the last couple of days so there's not been much bench time out of me. Hopefully this week I can make some forward progress on this beast.

wow, just got around to looking this project over, don't know why i am suprised joe, you're a mad man, lol. looking great man, keep at it:)

I did some more test fitting in the spare car body this morning. This time I fitted the interior and the firewall that I'm going to use and had some fit issues. It seemed that the upper part of the firewall was contacting the body at the corners which affected the vehicle stance dramatically!!! It sat waaaaaaaaaaaaay too high in the front so I had to clip the top corners of the firewall to allow the interior tub to sit further up into the body which brought my front end back down to where I wanted it.
In this picture the top lip of the firewall is now sitting snugly up against the body cowl. There was around 3/16" between the two before the mod!! Still gotta install the master cylinder, brake lines and hook the heater hoses up and may run an electrical harness on there but we're getting closer every day................

Stance is right where I want it now. A couple of shots with the grille in place:

I got the spare Camaro kit in yesterday that had the extra grille that I was looking for. I've already spliced out a section of grille from what I had left over that's on the same side as the Z/28 emblem so I won't have the problem of mismatched grille patterns like I did before. We'll see how this all goes. Fingers crossed fellas..............

Thanks Dan.

Still workin' my tail off on this one. I'm down to the point, and you guys know the one, where it's all the little things left. You know, the mirrors (inside and out) chrome trim, radiator hoses and all that stuff. It's at this point that I usually have a hard time finding direction while at the bench icon_hmm_zps07rcoppf . So I make a list of what's remaining and put it all into a buildable chronological order to help out with that. I'm really hoping to have this one completed in time for this months contest on another forum.

Still left to do:

1.) Inside rearview and outside rearview mirrors (acquired both from Revell's Yenko Camaro kit)

2.) Complete exhaust system (made of solder and mufflers from Yenko kit)

3.) Battery paint and install (Battery and AC Delco decal acquired from Yenko kit)

4.) Radiator hoses fabricate , weathering and install

5.) Heater hose inlet / outlet holes drilled in firewall and hoses fed through holes

6.) Drive shaft modified, painted and install

7.) Rear license plate decal applied and license plate base install

8.) Radiator core support/radiator and fan shroud install

9.) Front grille modified, headlamp lenses inserted and install complete assembly

10.) Front air deflector/ spoiler paint and install (Got this from the Yenko kit as well and will be a VERY welcome addition to this old kit)

11.) Front bumper install

12.) Rear bumper install

13.) All badging and emblems install / apply

14. Install body/interior onto chassis assy

15.) Install complete front end / valance onto body

We'll see if I can pull it all off by the end of the month but that's still a hefty handful of stuff to do for me.

Isn't #16 pack it up and mail it to me?

You've been doing a good job making this lousy kit look fantastic.

LOL! Not quite Glenn. ;) Thanks for the good word.

I managed to get the master cylinder, brake lines and fittings completed a couple of days ago:

and I got the obnoxious rear license plate under way. I'll install a couple of license plate retaining screws at the top of the license plate to top it all off.

Image

I've got most of the kinks knocked out of the grille after making some cuts and sanding back to the join areas. I've got the section all glued in and ready for paint. The headlight lenses are spare pieces and are being used for masking devices. See those stupid dots in the middle of the headlamp lenses? Yeah.............those! They'll be gone by the time I'm done with the grille.

Here's a quick mock up of the engine compartment. Still have to mark the heater hoses for the clamps I'll be installing on them at the firewall connection, radiator hose fabrication and install and I'll be adding a windshield washer bottle on the radiator core support. I'll also be lifting the heater hose that has a little too much sag to it so that both heater hoses are routing closer together.

The engine compartment is shaping up to be one of the most realistic I've seen in scale.  This whole build is just amazing, Joe.

that is a beautiful engine bay.

though I am surprised you went with black for the brake booster rather than cad anodized.

Thanks Curt, James and Mike.

Mike: I always enjoy your input. I did see that a lot of brake boosters had an anodized appearance in looking on line and through reference pictures. This not being a "numbers matching" SS396 Camaro , I chose to go with an artistic license and go black with it as I don't much care for the anodized look and try to use that sparingly (like on the brake reservoir cap). I did find some photos where folks did paint them black and to me they looked a lot better.

I have never been one to be fascinated with "numbers matching" or auto provenance. My preference is to use or enjoy machinery whether its a tool or a vehicle.

Since the firewall is black, a cad colored brake booster would have added a little contrast that would have made it more visible.

I'm not knocking your artistic license since I respect and admire your work.

When I get the time, I hope my projects look half as good as yours.  :)

Thanks Mike. I really appreciate that bud.  I've got a long ways to go skill wise but I'm learning new stuff every day. emotion-21.gif

Great looking engine bay; my favorite part of this build! May I suggest robbing a monogram 68 or 69 GTO kit for its wiper/washer motor assembly to fill that depression at the top of the firewall? It is a nice separate piece.

I want to do this car also. Your thread is a going to be a great help. The idea of correcting the grill is great. I was thinking of the earlier idea of flipping the right side of the grill like you did but the correction that you did looks much better. Keep up the good work,
