It always brightens my day & gives me a little chuckle when I run across an auction like this on ebay.

It's an AMT '63 Mercury convertible from Canada priced at $76.00!

The add states:

                              RARE! AMT '63 Mercury

Not broken & "no parts missing".

No parts missing?

how can there be?

They're all glued to the body!

Actually, I think you would be very hard pressed to find a factory stock part that "wasn't" missing. ^_^

'63 Mercury you say? Other than the hash marks on the rear quarter (that are nearly covered by the '58-'59 era "candlesticks"), I'd just have to take his word for it!:P

What is that little critter under the rollbar?  Cat?  Bunny?  Large gerbil?

Probably one of the stuffed animals AMT was putting in kits at the time. Couldn't magnify the pic large enough to see clearly.  I think it looks like a possum.

Did the words "screw bottom" appear anywhere in the listing?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

If it didn't, I bet a lot of us were thinking it, or something very similar.

I think that may have been the name of the original builder. At least all of the rare Custom Accessories are present and accounted for.

A lot of them were built like that.  I'll bet the kid who built it had a blast back in the day.  I couldn't bring myself to stick one together exactly like that, but I do have a couple of started Advanced Custom kits (including a '63 Merc hardtop) that I intend to finish using the kit's prescribed custom parts.  In the case of my Mercury, I had to fix some overzealous trim removal and realign a few already-glued-on parts.  But it's too far gone to save as a stocker, I've got a stock one already, and the butchered/customized one was cheap...

When the instruction sheet says "use custom parts...", and the builder uses all of them.

I could see how these must been popular back in the days considering how much custom stuff and decals there was.

Today you are lucky if you get a set of cragars extra.

I was thinking maybe an Iguana or the like?

Whatever it is, it makes the model! ^_^
