Khils Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 No matter "how bad" a day I may have.......there is always some one who has it worse!THAT would be devastating!
gtx6970 Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 OMG, I hate to hear of this. Hopefully no one was hurt . Cars can be replaced. Life isnt A good friend of mine lost a couple cars due to fire maybe 20 years ago now. It still hurts to think about it
Lovefordgalaxie Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 OUCH!!! That has to hurt. If foul play was not involved, it's yet another reason to always have a battery disconnect device on your old car. The building looks like it was well maintained, and reasonably new, but sometimes this kind of stuff happens. One faulty circuit protector plus a peak in voltage, can result in a fire.
Mr mopar Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 What a shame , that Plymouth Golden Commandos ,but what I can't figure out is why this guy did not have a fire suppression system ? with car like that I sure would have .
High octane Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Wow, that is terrible news and sorry to hear it. That gentleman had some really nice rides and as a "car guy" I know that was devastating.
Lunajammer Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Was the building hard to get to? How could it have burned so completely if fire responders were anywhere near? Sprinkler system? Definitely heartbreaking.
moparfarmer Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Very sad, horrible thing to happen..My thoughts and Prayers go out this gentleman..

Mr mopar Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 and yes, the cars were insured, but the cause of the fire has yet to be determinedthey interviewed the man yesterday, you could hear his voice choke up, pretty close to tears, a real enthusiast, got married in one of them. i seriously doubt it was malicious I seen that on the news last night ,very sad .
gotnitro? Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Heartbreaking As an owner of a classic car this really hits home how fast trajedy can strike
espo Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 I'm glad there was no loss of life. Great that they were insured, but how do you replace some of these cars and the memories they held for the owner and his wife. They may be just material things but as anyone who really loves the automobile will tell you this is about as great a loss as you could ever imagine.
disabled modeler Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 I wouldn't know what to do if I was in his place....just heartbreaking. Some people like their cars....others really love them.
mikemodeler Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 Sad and heartbreaking for sure! I saw something similar about 15-20 years ago, it was a race shop though. It was an older guy who ran dirt track cars and had several of his cars as well as a couple of others inside the building as he was known as a great tuner. It too was in a rural area and no fire hydrants, so all the water had to be trucked in and it was mid January in northern Illinois, so there was only so much they could do. The guy ended up in the hospital, having chest pains and later determined to have had a mild heart attack because of the fire. There was race fuel, a dozen or so Sprint Car tires and several welding setups that made for a spectacular blaze.

High octane Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 exactly. check out this vid, the man tours the devastation and also shows what a spectacular collection he had. https://globalnews.ca/video/3828095/owner-of-destroyed-collector-cars-tours-devastation/Thanks for the video as up 'til now I haven't seen it. Still a sad story as I would've been devastated to lose one car yet alone a whole collection, that probably took years to assemble.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 29, 2017 Posted October 29, 2017 That is very sad. Having lost one car to fire, I can identify...but only on a very small scale. If you have the bucks to afford this kind of collection, a good lesson from this sort of tragedy includes 1) don't store cars indoors with fuel in the tanks, and 2) spend a little less money on cars, and more on a state-of-the-art fire suppressor system. Sprinklers won't do much of diddly once the tanks start to go.
