Impalow Posted March 15, 2018 Author Posted March 15, 2018 Thanks David and Bob!! A little Wednesday night update... 2 days to go here... Chassis permanently attached. Previously mentioned steering shaft made, chromed and installed.... its not a functionally correct piece... but at least there is something visually connecting the column to the steering box. I used micro O-rings at the bends to simulate u-joints with boots. Then it was on to the header install... which was some major "ship in a bottle" action... i scratched them up pretty bad getting them in there, luckily some creative brush work and molotow chrome saved the day.
misterNNL Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Actually I wish you had made a little more flashy somehow! See you Saturday. The weather channel is calling for a ice so leave early and be careful.
Tom Kren Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Eric this is out of this world Crazy cant wait to see it this weekend!!!!!
hobbybobby Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Your approach and execution are first class, Eric, great build so far!
Codi Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Been a bit since I've checked it out Eric but you didn't disappoint. Another cool build by you & especially like the diversity of the builds you select...........truly unique. cheers, tim
bobthehobbyguy Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Well how did it do at the show? Looking forward to seeing the completed model!
Impalow Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 Thank you all for the comments and compliments! I really like how this turned out, I finished it up at about 2:30am Friday morning. Luckily I took Friday off from work.... Saturdays show was awesome as usual... I really commend the Buckeye Scale Auto Club for putting on a top notch show every year.. Great/fun group of guys as well. I was honored to bring home the Ohio Challenge for the 3rd year in a row... Next years build off is based on the Revell 85 Olds Cutlass, so everyone get building! Here are a couple photos from the completion of the build:
Impalow Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 And here are some photos from the show: (thanks glenn marek for the photos!) more show photos at this link: https://public.fotki.com/Donald-Splitstone/model-shows/2018/8th-annual-buckeye-/
D. Battista Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Congratulations Eric...! Comet looked just as cool in person...!
styromaniac Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Thanks for the crazy journey! Outrageously original...and looks like a super clean build to boot.
Mr. Metallic Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Congrats on your win. You and John Teresi have such a knack for making your plastic parts look like metal. Just marveling at the finish on the blower cases and rearend. How do you do it?
larman Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Fabulous build, I enjoyed watching it come together. Brilliant fabrication and the finished model is an absolute jewel! Certainly one of the most imaginative and well built models I have seen on here! That is a high compliment because this site has some serious talent! -Larry
Impalow Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 (edited) Thank you guys for all the kind words! I really need to do an under-glass photo-shoot and post some finished photos. Edited March 23, 2018 by Impalow
OldNYJim Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 What a wonderful build - I've said it before and I'll say it again...one of my FAVORITE builders. A real master!
Scott Colmer Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Wow! That came out great! It is so wild, but still looks balanced and well put together. Excellent work. I really enjoyed following this one.
