2018 Cannonball Run

Making slow progress but getting there. I finally got around to putting some paint on the Septic truck.

I had planned to go with the Stool Bus theme, but could not find a good graphic to put on a decal that I liked. So, it is now going to be a septic truck for Universal Construction.

Right now it is very "clean", it will not be when I am done, it will have evidence of the produce it hauls all over the outside when I am done.

Once again, lack of updates due to life and such and apologies for the slightly messy work area. In this update report however, we're at the home stretch baby!

Added mesh in the vents I opened up (I did the side vents as well but in the mock up pic they're kinda hard to see).

Just need to adjust some things and add a few bobs and bits and we'll be finish!

Nice one Rick! Firebird looks awesome!!!

The Stool truck is my favorite! Great idea! Cant wait to see more!!!

I managed to make a bit of progress over the weekend! Painting has finally commenced!

First Basecoat is on, I've used SMS paints sand, which covers increibly well, 2 light coats over grey primer & its perfect! Sadly there will be very little of this colour left once Im done. I needed to do this one first as it was the only Laquer paint im using.

The Masks have been cut & ready to go, next up is the main slightly darker colour & the darkest brown.

The Soviets decided to paint the interior in a colour they're familiar with, so after much research they decided to paint the interior in Russian Cockpit Turquoise, to match their MiG & Su fighter planes.

This was actually a very difficult choice, but a post on another aircraft forum regarding different colours that could be used I struggled to get hold of one that was "accuarte" but managed to find a Vallejo colour that was pretty much what i wanted, it was very difficult to paint, had to thin it with water! trying to get the right consistency took a few attempts! Pretty happy with it overall, the photos don't really show the right colour (looks closer to the colour on the spoon) & it needs a clearcoat.

More soon!

I have posted much more of a progress update in the Trucks Workbench section. But, so as all of you can see the progress I will post a few updated pictures here.

Still a lot to do, no mirrors yet, the rear is just sitting in place, need to mount it, then I can finish the pump plumbing. Visor needs installed, as well as the bumper, the hose needs paint and weathering and much more.

But, you can see where it is headed.

If I was a Cop, I would not want to pull this truck over.

Hey guys!

I made a heap of progress over the weekend, by the time i realised i hadnt taken any photos the sun was setting, so theyre not great pics... but progress is progress.

Masks were applied to the SMS Sand in prepartion for the next colour, forgot to get pics of this before I masked it up ready for the next colour which I didnt end up getting a chance to spray (family popped over for a visit...) but you can see the colour difference in the first pic.

I'm pretty stoked as to how my wheels come out, Saw a picture a few weeks ago of a similar S13 silvia that had the same wheels but they were Matte Black with Bronze lips, I thought that was just awesome! So i wanted to do it, which proved harder than expected, theres currently no chrome bronze paint I could find, so Lips were painted gloss black & 2K clearcoated, then Alclad Chrome then Badgers Minitaire paint line 'Ghost Tint Brown', basically an acrylic candy bronze. & voila they look awesome! Pics arnt great, i'll get some better ones over the weekend when Im home & the suns out (fingers crossed!)

Still got lots to do, but now with an almost complete chassis, parts can finally start to be placed together.

Stay Tuned

I have taken a brake from model building for the past couple of months and I have had a few more ideas to do for the cannonball so I would like to change my entry to a 41 Chevy. It will be powered by ether a Datsun 4cylinder ohc, Datsun 6cylinder ohc or a Nissan 6cylinder dohc and the frame will be scratch biult.

Still got 2 more colours to add to the body before I clearcoat it, & a few touchups. Now considering a matte finish, not sure If I gloss clearcoat it first to sand it.

Cheers Guys!

With the chassis finished is time to start adding details before the beast gets his heart!

Scratchbuilt a wiper motor, found a brake booster & a few other parts, & started running lines. Added a bit of Model Factory Hiro's heatshield.

Lots more to go!

Let me bump up the size of that font for ya there Bruce. Thanks much. That's exactly what I was gonna post today.

There are several builds that I saw in January that I REALLY wanna see on race day (cough-Zenrat-cough). Don't let me down.
