Richard Bartrop Posted June 11, 2018 Posted June 11, 2018 From the Ocober 1962 issue of Hot Rod. Looks slick, but I'm at a loss to figure out how you'd fit a human being in there with the top on.
oldnslow Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Just like anything , where there's a will ,there's a way , doesn't hurt to be short too .
Mr. Metallic Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I'm guessing the top is just on there for show. When it was driven (either on the street or on/off a trailer) they probably had the top off.
Snake45 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Somebody tell me that VW is a joke. It's a static display piece, or RC, or something. Right? I'm not normally claustrophobic, but just the idea of trying to get into or out of that thing gives me the willies.
oldnslow Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Nope , I've seen that thing being driven on the street . The guy that drives it is regular size , laying down to drive.

Too bad. I like the old Indy-style rubber better, too. Edited June 13, 2018 by Ace-Garageguy
afx Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 All the modern builds posted look to be a joke, caricatures of real hot rods.

unclescott58 Posted June 13, 2018 Posted June 13, 2018 I've never understood why anybody would build a car can not be comfortably gotten into or sat in by the average person. Even with the models I build, I generally consider if they'd be comfortable or practical to be drive in real life or not. With the exception of Ed Roth's stuff, I rarely build anything that could not be comfortably or practically drive on the street or race track.

iBorg Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 If the state has any kind of safety inspection I've got to wonder if the cars are legal. All look like trailer queens or good for half an hour to prove it can be driven on the street but not that they can be DRIVEN.

And can you imagine getting into any kind of accident in one of those things? The idea of running one on the public streets absolutely terrifies me.

Lets face it, any hot rod in running shape represents a significant financial investment. To spend that on a car that you can't drive down to the local car show and back, borders on insanity. Imagine trying to sell that?
NOBLNG Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 IIRC the minimum height here for a windshield is 13".
