Aurora did pump out some good box art. Here are two, that I just love the stories they tell.

I'm partial to the art of those Aurora 1/32 hotrod kits as well. They were some of my first ventures into plastic modeling.

Yea, they're not great kits. But, I'd still love to have one of each.

I built one of the Packard kits when I was about 12.  One of the few times I received a model kit as a gift.  Somewhere along the line it disappeared.  A few years ago I found a nicely-built one for a reasonable price at a show.  Now on display in a case in my bedroom.

I really like the "Moody Monster" box art, and have always wanted to build a 1/25 scale hot rod with figures exactly like that:  guy driving, girl holding umbrella.

Here's the umbrella and the girl, but she would need some surgery to sit in the hot rod.  I have an older Hasegawa set, "Racing Campaign Girls," that also has the umbrella in it. That umbrella is vacu-formed, in clear plastic.

1/32 scale.  How nice is that kit ?

It's fair. You can see for yourself hopefully, with the pictures below. No chrome plated parts. The tree that could/should be plated is molded in a grayish silver plastic. The chassis is very generic. Looks nothing like a real Corvette's at all. Interior is okay, but shallow. The body is pretty good. (Other than the bent right "A" pillar on my example. Which was easy to fix.) The decals that are give with this kit are pretty interesting. A lot of small details can be enhanced with the use of the decals included. It's almost too much in this scale on this model.

This kit was originally tooled up in the late 60's. It's better than a Pyro kit. But, in my opinion, not as good as AMT's old 1/32 scale All Star (now Scale Star) kits.

I’m shocked! Where is all of the exquisitely stunning AMT/ERTL 1990’s box art on this thread?

Back on topic, most of AMT’s Street Rods boxes looked pretty nice. I have the 70’s issue of the ‘49 Mercury with the green custom version on the box top. This is just a photo of it from online, but same box top:BCECA64F-BE2D-4C98-A712-1C2CA00A46AB.jpeg.a2e2d115508dd0f9e83a1a45acd02d87.jpeg

AMT's early 70's box art is among the best in the business, and sadly their last good art for some time. That Merc box art brings back my memory of my uncle buying me that kit at a 7-11! Luckily I have one in my stash.

But my fave from that era is this one with the mechanic trying to improve an already awesome car!

I agree with those who liked the AMT Street Rods series. Besides the box art it was a time when AMT updated some of their existing kits with some better tires and wheels along with many other extras.

Some of my very favorites from back in the day. I built the '65 Chevelle just as shown on the box--still have it and hope to restore it this year. Last year I finally finished up a '66 Skylark just like the one on the box. I hope to build a burnt-orange '55 Nomad like that gasser. And I'm almost finished doing a '65 El Camino that's kind of inspired by this one, but not the same colors. Got a Willys truck about half done which is gonna look that box.

Noting special about the box art but if I were ever given the chance to get this model for cheap, I would probably build it exactly like it is on the box. I have never done that before. I might be tempted to find a more modern rat motor to swap out the old 409. Even the stance looks about right.

Interesting that you mention the stance.  When that model was built the guys at Round2 were going for a certain look, and they were very particular about the stance of the finished model.  Several different tire/height combos were test-fitted /photographed and bounced back and forth until they decided the look was right (two of the many test pics are below).

Not a really interesting story, but it's good to hear that all of the effort is noticed.
