The World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville, Oregon has a Richard Petty square headlight Monte Carlo in their collection - it wasn't on the floor when I was there a few weeks ago but it is usually on display

Got my kit this week.  Great decals, the kit seems reminiscent of the Polar Lights kits.  I hope it goes together easier than one of those!

I love the fact they are going into the 70's Nascar era...... If they are good, i will buy them for sure

Obviously he got the Oldsmobile - which the thread for got flame war'd into oblivion. They haven't even cut the tooling on the Monte Carlo yet.

That is correct, my mistake.  I like the fact someone is trying new stuff, I will get a Monte Carlo also when (if) they get produced.

You know, NASCAR wasn't checking window size and or placement back then, right? As long as the car didn't look too funky to the eye, crew chiefs were manipulating pillars and opera windows for aerodynamics even then.

Looks like the on the fly fixes for the Oldsmobile continue, which is a good thing in my estimation.

Nice to see them attempt to correct some of the missteps in the Olds by making some add on parts. That's a first. So far the Monte looks promising.

Well, a further test to see if any of these guys can pay attention to details:

As shown in the 3D renderings shown earlier in this thread, the 74 bumper/grille combo above still has cover plates for 76/77 style parking lights.  They're tooling a separate bumper for each version: no reason not to correct this detail.

And preemptively for anyone already prepared to make excuses for this, too: No it isn't possible that someone possibly/couda/maybe raced a Monte in '74 with this type of bumper.  Which didn't even exist yet.

If they haven't cut the tooling yet, this would be about the simplest correction possible in the 3D model.  Will they do it?

To me it looks like the roof arches a little too much front to back (needs to be flattened out a little) and is a tad high in the back.

I'm not starting a new Oldsmobile thread for this - but Salvinos JR announced a run of 2,500 Hawaiian Tropic '79 kits for delivery in mid-September.  Same kit as the Gray Ghost, none of the fixes and/or "upgrades" to the tooling are done yet.

I will wait for the corrected bumpers before getting a kit, although I want one bad.

Powerslide already makes this livery that also has pieces to fit a '73 Laguna, and '77 Monte Carlo, so there's no real need to buy the uncorrected kit especially for the decals.

Those will have to wait until the tooling is done for the Monte Carlo which is still a few months down the line right now, none of the revised pieces - be it bumpers, or suspension - is being run separately before hand.  Once that stuff is done, it should be able to be included in Oldsmobile kits released into 2019.

Although I suppose the latter might be addressable via decals to represent the sheet metal inserts.

I'll just sit here and wait until the "You should shut up and be happy we still have model kits" brigade shows up and defends how this is even plausibly O.K. in 2018 for a $35+ model kit, when people have been screaming at them since Day 1 the first CAD images dropped that the bumper was wrong.

EDIT - Also does the chassis really sit in the rear end like that - a country mile short of the back bumper and a scale half foot short of the rear quarters?  Sooooo there's just a giant gaping hole to the inside of the body?
