But to most hobbyists, if it regularly goes for $20 and the seller is asking $25 the buyer will likely pay. But if the seller wants $30 or $35 the buyer may not purchase. I think for the most part when people say they aren't going to overpay they have an idea of the going price of the item and base their value accordingly.

And the guy who ultimately pays $40.00 for that bumper may not necessarily feel as if he has overpaid, depending upon his needs.

I personally will rarely pay more that $10.00 or $15.00 for a needed vintage part.

For some, that may be overpaying.

Another individual's threshold might be twice that.

So, I guess my point is, criticizing a seller for being overpriced is really very objective.

Then I guess the new seller I came across isn't him.

LOL, even dying he's still as gruff as ever.  His last "gfy" as a response to the negative feedback says it all.  Once an a-hole, always an a-hole.   I have never bought anything from him, but I saw his very wordy tirades here several times.  World would be nicer with fewer people like that bozo.

I just do not get the parting out common and cheap kits (under $20) when it would make much more sense to just buy the whole kit.

When shipping for a kit cost $40 it suddenly makes a lot of sense to just buy the parts you need, even for the same price as the whole kit.

I bought several sets of AMT 1970 Camaro front subframes from eBay.  I could have bought entire kits for a few bucks more per set but the shipping will be at least $50 more, and I have zero use for the rest of the stuff.

Every buyer has a top price they're willing to pay, anything more would be overpaying. Just because a seller has the bumper I need and it's the only one listed on all of ebay it doesn't mean I'll pay any price. In the same way as sellers are free to set their price, buyers are free to spend as they see fit and they are also free to set their maximum bid.

I think this post says it all.

Thanks for a civil conversation.

The info about his health should make people think twice about spewing vitriol directed at him or anyone else.

There's certainly some truth to that. But...

No matter what the circumstances, that's hardly a class act. The decent adult response would have been "I've been having severe health issues; I'll make sure your money is refunded".

Personal problems are not a blanket excuse for treating others rudely...and it's the belligerent, insulting, and completely self-centered attitude this guy has shown time after time after time that has cost him the respect of a number of board members.

I agree fully he can ask any price he wants for his own stuff, and anyone is free to buy elsewhere.

Sure we would. Except, expressing it here guarantees one will get frogmarched off the forum.

True. But, being tagged as a money hungry ladro out to destroy "the hobby" by asking, and that is the key word, what some feel are outrageous sums for his stuff ain't exactly conducive to creating a spirit of amity. :D

Gotta agree with both of those statements too.

But seeing quite literally thousands of parts being offered simultaneously, clogging the search results, taking free advantage of eBay's server space to repeatedly re-list thousands of things that would probably never sell (which drives up the costs of doing business on eBay for everyone else) and asking in some cases more for a set of tires for a not-that-rare kit than the whole thing could be sourced for elsewhere by someone knowledgeable doesn't breed warm fuzzies either.  :D

its free world in both a sellers and buyers mind. I don't care how a seller determines is asking price. Nor do I care if it sells or not.  If its worth said price to me. I'll buy. If not I'll wait ( patience is key here )

And I am more than capable  to make up my own mind as to how much a part/kit / or anything else for that matter. Is worth TO ME and me alone.

Will I over pay for a part I need ? depends on the part and where the subject build is in my long term plane to start said project ( over paying is defined on a person by person / needs basis )

As an example, I had been wanting a clean Johan 1969 GTX for quite a while , I wanted to stay under $100 for one. And as time marched on  i was finding my budget simply was not going to get it done. I finally bought one about a year and half ago, I pulled the trigger and bought one  in the box for about $125 . Since that time, Ive bought  2 more. and I think I have less than  $100 in them both, ( Weird how life  works out isnt it )

I was recently offered a super clean Johan 1970 Roadrunner. Price was on the very top end of what I consider the market is at , at the moment  ( at least from what I can see see on ebay as  an example ) If I didn't already have one ( although mine needs some repairs )  I may have given  it some serious thoughts to purchase or made an offer on it at the least ).  Had  he priced it at the lower end of MY scale as for value ( $100 range ) . I would have bought it .

And as for seller Floyd426RT, ( aka Larry Rose )  I heard from a mutual friend of ours yesterday. Larry is fine,,,. he is a real estate agent by profession and simply far to busy to worry with model kits at this time. He sold everything to a friend of mine and got out of it.

"My hardy-har heart!"

But he was able to respond to his feedbacks and claw for the 'victim' position from the hospital bed. Hmmmmmmmmmmm, okay. A manipulator to the bitter end.

Looks to me like eBay unregistered him for too many failures to ship. He'll be missed. But not by me.

I'll buy the beers AND the pizza. But who's gonna foot the bill for getting me to NYC? (Tom, you'll have to drive up from Pa.)  :P

Let's see...  April 26, 2019  6pm   Houlihan's Restaurant, 645 Route 46, Fairfield, NJ.

That's the Friday of NNL East, the restaurant is in the parking lot of LaQuinta, the host hotel.  I'll be there!

Joe, you have no excuses!  We throw the biggest event for modelers in the country.  Bring the youngster!

Bill,  hitch a ride with the Acme crew.  We had beers this year... okay  Downie had some sorta Martini thingie!
