There has been mention of the "Lounge" in other posts....... some were saying that it should be removed. The off topic section was started some time ago to keep the General area from being flooded with posts not pertaining to models or real cars........ I for one think we should keep this section! Those that don't care to read here pretty much don't. I think that I'm more active here than on the rest of the board......(mainly because I don't know what I'm talking about anywhere else......)

What say the rest of you guys?

:)

I concur... all forums I've been on have them. Most do have it hidden, unless you're a member though.

Oh without a doubt it should stay. When and where did you hear mention that they were getting rid of the forum?Come on,it can get hilarious at times.Theres nothing on there that is too shocking,(No bad language, political or religious humor, that might offend anyone). The monitors make sure of that.It should stay.

I think it should stay. I enjoy it. I see no good reason to remove it. You don't like it ? Don't read it. Can't be more simple than that. Just one guys opinion.

No one said they were GOING to get rid of the Lounge, just a few members said they Wished it gone....... members that would have some influence as to whether it stays or not......

Don't worry, it's not going anywhere anytime soon!

The idea came up in frustration a week or two ago. There was some nonsense, and some trolling, and it got heated. Purely out of frustration, someone suggestion just ditching this area completely. Also in frustration, others agreed. I think I did at the time as well.

But cooler heads prevailed, and don't worry. it's not going anywhere.

Having said that, I think if the thought was being seriously considered, I would like to think we'd take a poll and gather some info from members prior. Have a discussion.

don't leave that hole open,....

I'll be honest, I don't think a discussion about it could stay civil, and would in all likelihood get locked.  :(

It is good to have one as long as it too is moderated just enough to keep things from blowing up and spreading across the whole sight which I have seen on other forums over the years!

Not having a section like this would result in just that as has been proven on other sites that dropped the section.

Yes some make it invisible except to those that want to indulge but that causes some issues as new members who do not know about it will sometimes get themselves into trouble.

Just leave it open and those that want to participate will and the rest will just ignore it like some do other sections that does not interest them!

I think it should stay.  Like was said before, if you don't like it, don't read it.  In fact, I think its most useful function is that it puts all the topics I don't want to read in one convenient location.

I really don't want to read about someone's marital issues or trouble with the gout in the general section!

Do you want to read about it in this section?   Why people come to a forum dedicated to automotive models to discuss other things which aren't model related is an open question, as there are plenty of other places on the internet and IRL to do just that, but people are gonna be people. :P

The O.T. section was created because two particular members kept posting obnoxious hockey fight and other videos in Gen. Disc., having nothing to do with model vehicles. There were other posts, too, but those particular posts were the spark for creating the O.T. section.

Now, why there is 1:1 auto related discussion allowed in Gen Disc on a model building forum is another question for another day, and something Harry would never budge an inch over when discussing it. -_-

No, I don't.

But as I'm sure you well know, if this section were to be eliminated, those subjects will still wind up somewhere on the forum, in areas where they absolutely don't belong.

Think of the "Off Topic Lounge" as a sort of "quarantine" area for topics that we don't want to hear about. ;)
