I happen to know who owns #001 Ferrari.  He was living back east at the time he saw an ad in the paper, it was a basket case.  Found the engine in South America.  Experts argued about it's authenticity, until he brought it to a show.  It's in unrestored condition, so it's not sexy enough to be all over every Ferrari blog, we see the cycle fender version.  If I recall, "C" is part of the serial number.  He took me for a short ride around the neighborhood.  These pictures are at a Prescott Antique Auto Club in 2008, that's me behind the wheel.

Thanks Gary and Matt!

What year does the kit depict? This is the one I want to build:

IMCDb lists it as a '65 with an earlier short nose. Ferrari experts please chime in...?

Chris,

The Scott Kercher model I posted with the long nose was introduced in 1966 I think, the kit instructions do not give a date.  Here is a good reference with photos of one that just sold at Sotheby's.

I have this rare kit in 1/14th scale, with amazing detail, yet to be built though. I've had it for almost 20 years!

That is a pretty a very amazing kit.  Any info on who released it?

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I have a question about this Maserati clone.  Is it possible from using the photos on this site if this car can be 3D printed into a 1:25 scale parts for master parts.  I see I can get a 1:43 diecast or a 1:18 diecast.  I would really prefer 1:25/1:24 scaled parts for molds.

Are you interested in a model of that Maserati clone or a Maserati A6G? A Maserati A6G in 1/24 has been produced. I see no reason to make a model of the clone.

Thank you, I found this.  There is a kit in 1:24 in existence?  Is the kit common?

Super Classics Ferraris

Here are some real oldies (1992) with an interesting history.  Peter Wright in the UK created some early Ferrari bodies in 1/24th scale and sold them with the brand name of Super Classics.  He sent the body masters to California to John Johnson (Teapot Graphics) who borrowed a vacuum forming machine from Mike Quarterman (UMI Modelwerkes) and pulled the bodies for Peter.  Mike created a resin V12 with gearbox, pretty nice by the way, what appear to be brake drums, and a sheet of miscellaneous parts. Some of the kits included Herb Deeks PE wheels and tires.

The kits pictured here are a 166 Spider Corsa and a 125 F1 from the Monza race of 1949.

I just noticed this thread. I can vouch for Norm's EXCELLENT V-12 engines as I've built a couple..............

My first attempt---- I built this in '96(?) in a 250 GTO.

My second one built a couple years later......this one in a 250 GT SWB.

I have another one of Norm's V-12's-----someday it's to go into a 250 GT SWB California Spyder. I also have MFH's Ferrari 330 LMB, that was a holy grail of mine among other Ferrari's. Now just the time to build it among other projects. ;)

Are these engine kits still available from Norm?  I thought he discontinued making them.

Peter, that's a good question. I don't have his latest catalog, but last I knew he wasn't making them. IIRC, I got the last engine from him a few years ago as Norm made it for my by "special request" since I see him fairly regularly at the club meetings. If you'd like one, perhaps you can drop him a line?
