Gramps46 Posted March 8, 2021 Author Posted March 8, 2021 (edited) This JADA McLaren 720S came late yesterday and though outside my normal lane I could not resist the offer AMAZON made, $17.99 shipped. After all it is a McLaren. ? On second thought I might have waited and tried to find the "yellow" version which more closely matches the CanAm McLarens. The black wheels are correct. One of the things I like about this models is the rear view mirrors have a flexible mounting which is a nice touch. Edited March 8, 2021 by Gramps46
Snake45 Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 That McLaren is a stunner! I'll have to keep an eye open for one of those. Didn't find any interesting diecasts (in my price range, anyway) at the local toy show yesterday. On the way home I made my usual stop at the last Welly-carrrying Rite Aid in my area and saw three things I haven't seen before. 1. Ford Capri (Euro version) in red. I've seen several blue ones at Rite Aids, and knew that red ones were once available, but had never seen a red one in 3D before. I like it better than my Richard Petty Blue one, but not enough to buy it. 2. '65 GTO in bluish-green or dark turquoise. I've had one of these in this color for almost 15 years, and a couple years ago gave it some extensive Snake-Fu which involved reshaping the roof. I also have a gold one new in the box somewhere but can't find it (must have fallen in the Snakepit's Black Hole). Only mention it because I've never seen any '65 GTO at any Rite Aid before. 3. '68 Chevelle SS396 in light yellow or cream. I already have one of these, in black, built from a Testor kit over a decade ago, which involved much laborious work reshaping the side windows. I've seen them in red, too, but never in this light yellow before. Gave considerable thought to buying this one--it would look great with a black vinyl top, but didn't relish the idea of doing that window mod again. The deal-breaker was the door handles--they're attached to some weird little "pedestals" protruding from the door skins. This is not that noticeable on my black one but really stood out on the yellow body. Again, I only mention it because I've never seen the Welly '68 Chevelle at any Rite Aid before.

Picture was taken yesterday in McLean Virginia.

Gramps46 Posted March 8, 2021 Author Posted March 8, 2021 Wowzers! What a coincidence you saw one for real yesterday Rex. Hope you are feeling better Carl.
keyser Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 I have the Shaw and Hobbes issue, needed Saros grey for a reason (see avatar). Nice rendering. Red awesome on it too. It’s a bit big because Jada, but I don’t care.
Gramps46 Posted March 9, 2021 Author Posted March 9, 2021 Just noticed my skin has a greenish tint to it this morning. At first I thought it was the COVID19 shot I just got then realized it is caused by your avatar.

GLMFAA1 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 Finally got the First Gear 1/24th Chicago fire department Mack/Holmes wrecker. A friend found a derelict one at a toy show and had a donor derelict one to switch parts off of. I switched the boom and attached mirrors and used an AMT bulldog. What a nice birthday present. greg
cobraman Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 Got these nothing special HW Cobras for something to customize between other projects .

Hmm, interesting. I had never customized 1/64 diecasts. I've seen yours and they look great! I'm still not committed to customizing but I have started detailing little things like trim, lights, wipers, etc. I picked up these Matchbox over the last couple of weeks from our Dillons (Kroger). They're super cheap $.76, come in a box(it's not recloseable) instead of a blister pack. I only picked the ones that appealed to me. The Red MB 220 was not of the cheap variety. That one satisfied the little kid in me because I had one like it over fifty years ago. As I said I did a bit of detailing just to please my eye. I've since added detail that I missed on the blue MB wagon. I also had a couple of loose Hot Wheels and added a bit of pain to them too. Wow! That MGB GT is out of scale! More cars out of scale, but they fit the box! I had to paint some bumpers "chrome". Apparently that's where they're saving some money. I can live with grey, but black, or white when I know it should be chrome, just won't cut it. Edited March 23, 2021 by THarrison351 1
THarrison351 Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Well, I didn't get these today, I've had the Matt DiBenedetto hauler for over two months and had to wait for the car to come from eBay. I happened to see the Ryan Blaney Body Armor hauler at Wal-Mart last week and because I already had the car, I picked it up. Now I've got five 1/64 NASCAR haulers and four loose cars. I put three of the haulers in cases because their cars are loose and were easy to display. The other two, Hailie Deegan and and Bubba Wallace remain boxed and the cars in their blisters. Never thought I'd be collecting 1/64 again. At the time I got the hauler the car was hard to find. One finally popped up for a BIN on eBay. I already had the car from a previous purchase trying to get the Advance car. I wasn't expecting this hauler to be released. What's cool is Ryan won in this livery at Atlanta today! All of them in cases. I wonder if they'll release the Kobe Bryant Body Armor livery in a hauler. If they do, I have the car! The other two haulers and cars. I've had these since before Christmas and I think I may have already posted them, but seeing how I talked about them, I thought I'd share.
Gramps46 Posted March 22, 2021 Author Posted March 22, 2021 Thanks Tim for posting these and the Matchboxes too.

vamach1 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Does a garage for diecast count? Here’s a Gulf gas station from China in 1/64 scale. Easy to assemble with super glue. Only complaint is the outside back wall is not painted and the ends of the two walls that connect to the front. It is sold on Ebay and came with a fiber optic light but no battery. As this in my 2nd Gulf garage I need to get some more Gulf mechanics and a lift and more shop stuff.
Gramps46 Posted March 24, 2021 Author Posted March 24, 2021 The garage is a very interesting and appropriate place to display your 1/64 Gulf cars. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Snake45 Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Didn't get anything new, but I did discover something new and interesting. Just happened to have both the AMT '66 Skylark and the MPC '67 GTO on the bench, and wondered how they compared in size to the Maisto "1/24" diecast '66 Chevelle. The Chevelle's wheelbase is just a little longer than the Skylark's, but the overall length and the width at both ends is VERY similar. The Chevelle's wheelbase is just a little shorter than the GTO's, but again, overall length and width at both ends is very similar. Conclusion: The Maisto Chevelle is actually 1/25, or closer to 1/25 than 1/24, or close enough to sit on the shelf with my 1/25 models. This is exciting because the Lindberg '66 Chevelle has some shape issues (maybe assembly issues, too), and the Maisto diecast's shape is quite good. The Marina Blue paint on mine is also quite good. Might be time to see what other colors these are available in.
Gramps46 Posted March 29, 2021 Author Posted March 29, 2021 This SAAB 96 V4 (1970) - 1:24 by Salvat arrived this afternoon and I am pleased to get it. SAABs were pretty rare where I lived and were considered quirky as were their owners. Nothing opens unfortunately but the shape and proportions seem pretty accurate. I wish Salvat would release an earlier rally version of the SAAB.
Tom Geiger Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 That is a pretty cool Saab diecast. I once owned a Saab 95 wagon, I checked to see if they had one.. nope!
