I’ve been enjoying Mopar building lately, and after completing a 65 Plymouth A990, and a 68 Roadrunner (which I still need to decal),  I’ve been working on a 71 Duster bracket car, and this Monogram 69 Superbee.

Marcos Cruz built this kit not too long ago,  and it really blew me away and inspired me to build a similar one. I’ve ordered the 3x2 intake pieces, and the A12 wheel and redline tires, from Joseph (Fireball Modelworks). His parts are simply the best I’ve seen. I’ve ordered other parts as well for my future Mopar builds, like Mopar steel rims with dog dish caps, etc.

This Superbee will not have a vinyl top though. Also I had to settle for Testors Mystic Emerald Lacquer from the can, as I don’t have an airbrush YET!

So far I have the body painted, cleared, and polished, worked on the chassis, and I started to clean and detail the Fireball parts.

These rims and tires are beautiful to say the least. The tires have a thin groove that you must paint the redlines in. First apply white into the groove, then when dry apply flat red.

The rims only need a little bit of clean up in the brake vent slots. Painted the front dust caps, and rear hubs. The lugs will be chrome. I’m going to let the weather break before I get into painting the rims themselves.

This is an interesting project. With your building skills, I know it's going to be fantastic when you're finished. That color choice is excellent and you can't go wrong with the Fireball Modelworks' items. I'll be watching since I've always wanted to build this kit.

Looking very, VERY good!

Testor Mystic Emerald is a passably good match for '68-'69 Chevy Rally Green (a little sparkly), which is identical to that '69 Dodge green, so, good choice! B)

I've read /heard some conjecture that the 1969 Dodge & Plymouth "999" green actually was Chevrolet Rally Green

cant say for sure if the Mopar color is in fact the same as Chevy or not.

BUT, 1969 Plymouth 999 green is different than 1969 Dodge F6 green

IThanks for the positive replies everyone, I appreciate it.

I spent some time at the bench yesterday and today. Got some things done on the engine. I have the carbs drilled for vacuum lines,  painted and installed. Was going to use a MAD distributor, but I wanted a vacuum advance. I dug out an old 66 Fairlane distributor, and cut off the cap, so I can have the advance. Had to drill it out and add a 1/16 piece of rod, as the shaft on the Ford distributor was too short. Then I’ll add the prewired MAD cap to this base. Then I’ll add fuel lines, linkage, a return spring etc.

Also finished the wheels, and the front and rear chrome.

I believe it's the F6 Bright Green that's the same as Chevy Rally Green, and the 999 Rallye Green is a slightly different color.

I like the fine detailing on the engine. The Carbs. are just the right color and showing a little dust and dirt collection as well as the oil seepage around the valve covers and filler. The tail lights and the grill look perfect.

Thanks for the positive reply, David.

The engine is pretty much done. The only things left is a throttle cable and return spring. The smallest beading wire I have is  28 gauge, which is kind of thick for a spring. I’m going to have to find a super fine wire, maybe a 32 or 34 gauge?

I plan on leaving the air cleaner removable on the car. I have an extra hood, and I plan on adding four styrene rods on each corner, so I can display it open, and use the other pinned down.

It’s been a while since I worked on the Superbee. I got side tracked with a Duster, but got some work done on it today.

Almost near completion. Still have the rad support, front and rear lights and bumpers, and that big ole Superbee trunk decal.

Since I have an extra hood, I was thinking on having one hood closed, and one with the four corner legs for displaying the engine. I would need an extra set of the scoop decals as I only have one set. Not sure what I want to do. If I can score another set of scoop decals I most likely will go with the extra hood.

Hats off to Chief Joseph (Fireball Modelworks) on his beautiful carbs, AND red stripe tires, and A12 rims and lugnuts.  I have some of his dog dish hub caps and wheels I’ll be using on a 64 Dodge 426 max wedge car that’s on the bench.

Anyway, here are a few updates on what it should look like.
