Depends on when childhood ends since I still buy hot wheels and other similar sized cars that interest me, but I have most from when i was a kid still. None are in their boxes and many have been repainted using whatever paint i could find. I could restore some of them but in their well used state i think they tell more of a story

Nice! You've got some awesome cars there. I still have many of my old toys. My parents made clear to me I'd better take care of what I had because it wouldn't be replaced. Couple that with a father that collected diecast and built models, I had a good roll model.

When I moved out and started my own life they pretty much kept everything I didn't take and now I thankfully have it.

I don't have any "childhood" cars. Never had any. I was an airplane kid. Started building model cars as a teen, and I still have most of the ones I built then.

I lived in Gloversville as a child and have 3 brothers and 2 sisters. My younger brothers blew up my model cars but my mom kept a sharp eye on my matchbox, dinky and corgi cars. I use to wax them with car wax. Going through them today I noticed I did a little embellishing such as tail lights, head lights and bumpers. Does that reduce the value? Maybe. And I wrote the number of the car and what car on the top of each box so I didn’t want to keep pulling them out to know what one was. Thing is I have no children. So they will most likely be sold when I’m gone.

My dad left when I was in 3rd grade so we grew up with just our mom for most of our preteen years. We had no money. So we were taught to cherish what we got as gifts. The Dinky tractor trailer has a note written on the box from Santa to me. It was a special gift from Santa for helping my mom. Then she remarried when I was 13. Big mistake. A sicko. I moved out when I was 16 just to get away from him. Held 2 jobs. Had a studio apartment. And attended and graduated high school.. Moved back home after my step dad left to help my mom with money at 19. My matchbox cars were my escape from our family life as a kid.

Now back to building models. Keeps me busy for sure. Lol

The Matchbox auto transporter is a beauty, finally found one that's at least complete. I restore vintage Hot Wheels and Matchbox in addition to my other hobbies. There's a company in Australia that's has almost anything you'd need to restore Matchbox, Corgi's and Dinkys including reproduction boxes.

I still have quite a few of my old Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Safely in a box in our storage room here. One day I'll get them out and document them.

I only have a couple of my old models. Most were either played with, or rolled off a shelf one too many times. Not sure where most of them ended up. One is under reconstruction now. I used to date my kits, and it was from February 1988. I was 15.

Nice collection!

Most of my childhood toys were left in Poland (and now gone) when I immigrated to USA.  I did manage to bring few with me. And throughout the years I have reacquired (usually on eBay) several of the items from my childhood.

I was the last of 4 boys along with 7 sisters. The majority of my toys were hand me downs form all over. I played with them so they are all gone for the most part. Some Tonka toys are still at dads house. I just hope one of my sisters don't find them and plant flowers in them.

Sadly I had most of my old childhood models/promos/toys/etc. till 2011 when a tornado took most of them from me...liked to have killed me to loose them and about 75% of my dads old collection of them.  I have been on the hunt for parts to repair them with ever since but on my very low income level its not easy and have had very little luck.   I also had collected old model boxes, instructions, decals, etc. for 40+ years...so much for them.    I have very little left of my childhood models/promos now...many great memories..kind of feels like they have been taken from me...?

Micheal. I do have to find a few things like the boat for the trailer. The tvs and ladder for the tv van. The roof rack and boat for the Corsa. The hunter and dogs for the Studebaker station wagon. Tires for my Dinkys and Corgis. I'll check on line. And I would like to try and repaint a couple. Any hints with die cast as far as stripping and repainting?

Mark Orr. So sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what that is like.

I still have a few of mine. One of my childhood Hot Wheels cars is on the way to a new owner right now, courtesy of eBay.

Hey David, you'll want to check out this;

https://www.recovertoy.com

I would search YouTube for restoration videos, there's a ton of them. I also belong to a Facebook Hot Wheels restoration page if you're so inclined there's a number of pages dedicated to restorations there too.

Great looking collection. You are very fortunate your mother hung onto these for you. I had a lot of the dinky cars and trucks and latter started building plastic models. My situation in life had me moving a bit and was unable to hang onto any of them.

Primo collection, hard to believe a child owned those.

I have quite a few favorite toys from my childhood, but alas, none of them look as immaculate as yours do.

I have recaptured toys from my youth, thanks to Ebay. Brings back happy memories.

Patrick. I didn’t allow my brothers and sisters to even look at my matchbox cars. If they did they got the evil eye. They only got into the models after I left at 16. My one brother trade my Pramda Buick for a GI Joe during that time period.  I childhood friend gave me the Buick. I felt bad not knowing where it ever went. No one confessed to where it went until about 10 years ago.

I found another place called MK Modelcar Parts. The prices are good. I’m just having a hard time with their website placing the order.
