randyc Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Here's one that is getting close to complete. Box stock, but concentrating on the visual details. Will have red stripes.
espo Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 Are you adding the Red Strip Decals to the body? Would the Black Strips better match the interior and lower body color ? Either way would look good, the Red just seems like it would be very noticeable but that may be what you're going for anyway.
randyc Posted May 8, 2019 Author Posted May 8, 2019 Yep, the red stripes. I built an AMT 69 years ago (countdown boxing) - before the internet. All imagination. It was white on top, with red below the body line. Was one of my favorite builds of my younger self. So I can't do that again and be "correct". I was going to use a red interior, but didn't want to go through the painting process. I was painting black that evening. So I went with black. and there was an all original car on the net that had black interior and red stripe. And yes, I want this to stand out on the shelf. I think it will with the red stripe and black bottom. I wanted to do this one in something completely different, BUT the 69 doesn't have a factory red stripe option. So this is where I ended up. Not sure where the 69 will end up. And that is assuming Revell will do a 69 which seems likely from the chatter on here. BTW, I would probably have been of those who would have ordered a "mod top" Mopar back in the day. LOL
crowe-t Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) This looks real nice so far! Edited May 8, 2019 by crowe-t
fivesuns Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 I hope one day my interior detailing is as good as yours. that is a fantastic job in my opinion
randyc Posted May 9, 2019 Author Posted May 9, 2019 Thanks for the compliments, especially on the interior. I try to do the best detailing there, so if someone does look inside, it looks as good as the outside. I have a great little detail brush I bought at a yard sale (!) when a former art supply store owner was clearing out their old stuff. If I can do it, most all of you can. Just takes practice. In my case, about 35 years of practice. As some of the leaders in our hobby have said - treat every piece of a model as a model unto itself. No unimportant parts.
Geno Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Oooo Randy, that looks like it's gonna be sweet. Keep us posted.
randyc Posted May 13, 2019 Author Posted May 13, 2019 ALMOST THERE! All that's left is the door handles, mirrors, and touchups. My BMF is acting weird. Not sticking as well and leaving adhesive residue. Wipes off with rubbing alcohol though. It may be getting old. And the white is from a can of Valspar gloss white with primer in the paint. initially, I liked it. But, it seems like it still is the slightest bit tacky. This paint is at least a couple weekes old and has been accelerated in the dehydrator. I kept the white and black stripes intact on the sheet if anyone needs them. Just shoot me a PM and I can put them in an envelope to ya. Hopefully finish this evening, if we don't have anything come up to do.
drodg Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 I really like the red stripes. I love the 69 SS but only like the 68 SS. I know the 68 is a much better kit and I really like your paint/stripe combo. Keep it up.
Scott8950 Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 i like the red stripe.. amazing detail work on the interior.. very nice job?
Sam I Am Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 I like the stripe, but the red line tires look cartoonish with the stripe.
NOBLNG Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Nice job on those stripes! It's tedious and nerve wracking trying to get those long skinny decals arrow straight and parallel to the body lines. Looks like you aced it.
randyc Posted May 14, 2019 Author Posted May 14, 2019 I've been in graphics industry for 30 years. So I get lucky once in a while. LOL
randyc Posted May 15, 2019 Author Posted May 15, 2019 Thanks everyone. This is now over in the Under Glass section with outdoor pics.
