gasser59 Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) Shhhh...this is for my daughter and her family for Christmas, no body blow it. Their last name is Montree so I came up with this idea of building them a truck with a Christmas tree in the bed after seeing a loose rendering on some wrapping paper. The truck needs a bit more weathering before a coat of clear flat. Once done, I plan on giving the whole thing a dusting of snow. A ways to go but I think you'll get the idea from the pictures. Stay tuned. This will need to built in the next week or so. Edited December 11, 2019 by gasser59

mustang1989 Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Oh man....this is gonna be VERY cool!!!
Nazz Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Looks like you have a great start. Love the wreath!
Vic Florie Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Good luck Brad. Looks good so far and here's hoping it gets done on time.
Tom Geiger Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Oh I'm a sucker for family connections and gift models! Great concept and build. You must share the reactions when you show them! Here's mine, done some 30 years ago... sitting in my wife's Christmas Village.
gasser59 Posted December 15, 2019 Author Posted December 15, 2019 Thanks fellas. More work continues today now that the two Christmas parties of the weekend are done.
espo Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 I like this build. Besides being a great looking pickup the back ground story as to why the build in the first place is the best of all. Time is getting short and please let us know how everyone enjoyed it.
gasser59 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 A bit more progress while the kids were away on a hayride. A few more things to button up and then to add the fake snow. Not sure just how its going to turn out though.

ewetwo Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 This looks great Brad. And so does your's Tom.
espo Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 The finish looks perfect. I can't remember any vehicle painted red at that time that didn't oxidize just like this.

gasser59 Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 I'm calling this done and just in time. With the exception of pulling a few stands of something out of the tree because I think a few scale spiders moved in. Thanks for following along fellas. Merry Christmas!!
mustang1989 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 This turned out way cool! The snow effects add a lot to it. Good turn out!!!
GLMFAA1 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Very nice job and great gift idea, just have to add my two cents: side windows and windshield wiper clean area on windshield. Happy Holidays greg
gasser59 Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 (edited) If I had to do it over, I would have made side windows, the kit didn't come with any and I didn't think it would be a big deal. Once the snow was added, now it is a big deal. I would also have cut out a windshield wiper pattern of masking tape for the window and removed after the snow. I would also have added a few foot prints on the driver's side running board. Next time. Edited December 23, 2019 by gasser59
Oldcarfan27 Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Reminds me of a Hallmark ornament. You should put a hook on the roof and hang it on the tree!
gasser59 Posted December 20, 2020 Author Posted December 20, 2020 (edited) I forgot to add everyone's response to this gift and how it is boxed up since you really can't pick it up by the cab for fear of knocking the snow off. Everyone loved it and had lots of questions. My daughter and son-in-law Dave gave me a hug and thanked me profusely. Dave took pictures of it and sent to his parents since they of course have the same last name. I built a cradle for the truck and found the appropriate sized box with a drop down lid. The truck is lifted and positioned with the cradle, then slid out from underneath when in the right display spot. This should last for years. Merry Christmas everyone!! Danno Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Looks fantastic, Brad! It turned out great; the pics with the "snow" even look chilly! Most excellent, indeed. ??
