crazyjim Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 If you're a Mercedes purist, please go no further . . . because I took a Mercedes 300SL gull wing and after tubbing it, I installed a small block Chevy engine.
espo Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 This looks great. I'm sure you have upset many in the MB community but they'll just have to get over it. The SBC is sort of the default engine and it looks at home here. I also like the Bumper less smooth look with a great paint job. The Wheels also look perfect on this build.
Funkychiken Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I like the modded front end, yes, i can see how purists would get upset!
dino246gt Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 I love it! Modified one myself, purists be damned!!! LOL

crazyjim Posted April 19, 2020 Author Posted April 19, 2020 Thank you David, David, Atin, Dennis, Greg, Cliff. Maybe I should have a big block with a cowl induction hood? Next time.

Scott8950 Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 You might have built the best Mercedes ever ? Nice mods
crazyjim Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 THank you Scott. I saved the Mercedes engine Tom.
Koellefornia Kid Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 As a Mercedes purist and I owned several vintage MBs in my life (a ´69 200, a ´80 200D and a ´84 280SEL), I have to make sure: You made the greatest Mercedes look even greater! The SBC may be blasphemy but the the wheels look cool!
89AKurt Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 That's what is fun about models, executing blasphemy. Came out nice! The wheels are a good choice.
crazyjim Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 Thank you Kurt. Wheels are Pegasus Shoey's.
DonW Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I like it. It would be quite a widowmaker with all that extra power and torque feeding through those notoriously evil swing axles that made the rear wheels prone to extreme camber change and sudden loss of grip! One for the brave and skilled!
Gluebomber Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Nice Work, Jim! Like a couple of the others, I'm a fan of the classic MB's, but I really like what you did on this one. Good styling without being over the top. What kit did you use?
crazyjim Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 Thank you Donald and Larry. Swing axles were replaced with a normal differential. The kit was an old AMT 2065-200.

crazyjim Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 Thank you Larry. I don't know about saving a model life, but a real axle fit much better.
Hmann68 Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Wow that’s nice, and something different! Good work sir ?
