Rocking Rodney Rat Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) Have you noticed the proliferation of seriously high quality builds showing up right now? Man (and woman) oh man!!! I just want to say I'm proud to be part of this forum and it seems many have been exhibiting builds with imagination, ingenuity and interest. It's not that we haven't always have had spectacular builds being showing, it just seems like this place is exploding! Thanks to all who participate and the ability to learn and grow from others has made this forum a place I really enjoy being part of. That's all now "model on"!!! -RRR Edited September 4, 2020 by Rocking Rodney Rat
Mike 1017 Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 I agree 100%. This community has helped me become a better builder. Mike
SCRWDRVR Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 With out a doubt! I've learned an incredible amount of things since I've joined this forum. My builds have improved a huge amount from what I've learned and improves more every day..

alan barton Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 I would have to agree, Rodney. You have the likes of Codi, Mark Jones and John Teresi pushing the limits of fabrication and machining. Then there is Steve Guthmiller and Dennis Lacey building incredible creations by basically massaging the parts that the kit manufacturers gave us to start with to produce the most stunning eye candy. And for sure, there are others, these are just some of the top guys who are particularly prolific. Best of all, they are so generous with their information - it's probably why they get such an incredible number of views. Now for me, living on the hot rod side of the street, I feel like I am part of the best scale hot rod club in existence. Tim Boyd, Rocking Rodney, Kit Karson, Ace Garage Guy, Claude Thibodeau, Dann, Dennis as above, Bernard, the list goes on. I know I've missed people, but I am just rattling these off the top of my head, probably helped by the fact the fact that they are so prolific. I don't think we have ever had such a solid core of hot rod modellers on any forum. As soon as I see any of these guys name on a thread, I know I am in for a treat. And as quite a few of these guys build real ones, you know you are getting killer info. Ive had these similar thoughts to Rodney's in my head for a while now, thanks for the prompt to air them! Cheers Alan
bobthehobbyguy Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Definitely a lot of quality builds. From ultra nice box stock to over the top scratchbuilt projects. All these are a wealth of information and techniques. Coming onto the site is like going to the nnl everyday of the week. Being able to watch in progress builds allows me to learn a variety of techniques. Plus the tutorials provided in the tips and techniques. We are fortunate to have such a resource.
espo Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Learn something new all the time watching what so many others are doing. Thankyou for the insight on how to overcome problems and improve my own builds.
doorsovdoon Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Agreed. Before I joined this forum I couldn't for the life of me do BMF, I'm not great at it now, but the tips I've picked up from looking through posts has given me confidence to do it on parts I wouldn't have gone near only a month ago. It can only get better.
peteski Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 I don't agree with the title of this thread: "Quality builds showing up here now!". Just now? Really? While I have not been around since the beginning, I joined the forum 6 years ago, and there has always been a group of excellent modelers here, showing off their high quality builds. It is noting new. I'm sure the same is true going back even further.
Bills72sj Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 The builds here are AWESOME! I have only been a member here for not quite a year. I have easily DOUBLED my knowledge of what actually can be done. I very recently invested in the tools and materials to airbrush. My builds now take longer but I am prouder of the results. I am still working on the time vs. quality/detail balance.

I'm wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers and I certainly didn't intend to imply there weren't good builds going on here previously, but it does seem to me there are are even more quality being displayed now. Maybe it's because this place is growing and we have more contributors or maybe I just wasn't paying attention before...if you need me, I'll be over here at the bench hacking away on some styrene, my fingers covered in gloo.... -RRR

I know I got a few done I wouldn’t have had time for otherwise. Plus without any shows or club meetings we may be socializing more here!

I seem to have taken the subject line too literal.
Dave Ambrose Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 I've noticed a lot of good quality builds too. Our site traffic as been increasing, we're getting more new users, and with the pandemic, people are staying home. Good thing we have something to keep us occupied. ? Yes, we have some superstar builders, but there are a lot of people doing nice builds, and the plethora of those make this site very enjoyable. No doomscrolling here.
