That’s going to be really cool Alan!  The addition of the trailer and pedal car/go cart will really enhance your already exceptional build!  I love it when details like this are added that create strong visual appeal!  BTW, I have not yet commented in your completes truck build, but it is absolutely beautiful! The extended cab, V6 Ford, IRS, all just ooze cool!  Well done!

I have decided to take this project one step further.  Partly because KKK is doing a trailer and partly because while looking for something else I stumbled on a very old project. Back in the early 90's  I had aspirations to start up a business making vacformed parts. Alas, I was on the wrong side of the world, the Internet had barely been thought of and I just didn't push it hard enough.  Anyhow, of the thirty or so wooden moulds I handcarved, one of them was a Mullins Redcap trailer. Now this was well before Revell released the 37 Cabriolet with a Mullins as an accessory. I took the dimensions from an old article in Rod Action magazine and took it from there. I designed it with flat sides so that appropriate vintage fenders could be attached to match the towcar. I built three of them but this one got damaged and the paint was blaaaaahhh so I put it away for decades until I uncovered it last weekend. I had some restoration to do and decided to hinge the top while I was at it. The top is not removable on the Revell item.

Then I thought - what will go in it?  After all, if you are driving a pickup, load space is not usually an issue!  Bu what if you had a toy that was too big for a pickup bed?  Like, a pedal car or push car?  Perfect!  

I am a huge collector of diecast hot rods and toy hot rods and the first thing that came to mind and to hand was a tatty Hot Wheels AOK.  This 1978 toy is of a nicely proportioned 29 Sedan Delivery.  With less than two hours work I had the makings of a Model A stretch cab toddler rod!  I have to go and pick up some pink primer from my LHS before I can go further but I am pretty happy with the results so far.  Still gotta fabricate a towbar for the rod.

Made a bit of progress on @Kit Karson '29 truck repaint project. Everything is now in color. The interior seat and door panels were painted a light gray and light earth brown color. The top of the truck got the same brown as the interior parts. The tool box lid on the trailer also got the brown helping it to go with the truck colors. The wood decals for the beds were put in place with some solvset to get them to snug down real good. Also been applying alclad chrome on suspension parts and polished aluminum for the engine parts. The engine block was painted body color. Still have a few more parts to finish but this project is getting real close to being done.

 

 

 

I'm thinking the repaint part is done , Its just the small stuff now.

Ok guys, I’m stoked with the awesome work going on on these trucks!  I just have to show mine.  Made a little progress recently.  Wheels are done, and the windshield frame is a success.  It’s coming together!

Thanks Bob, I know the paint color look's blue, but it is actually turquoise. Look's way different in person.

Thank you , @Dennis Lacy Still up in the air as to who is putting this thing together. I was only hired for the paint work I think. @Kit Karson might have other thoughts though.....hehe

Phil, I wish i could call it mine but is actually the property of @Kit Karson and my part was to repaint the truck after he had a tuff time with the first paint job.

They are laced with copper wire in a jig, with brass tubing for the outer rims.  Thanks for asking!

Thanks Paul!  Some folks use fishing line and super glue, which is fine I guess as long as you’re going to paint them, but i prefer 28 Ga bare copper wire and solder instead of glue.  That’s my personal preference because I work with brass quite a bit, and am used to soldering.  Just my personal preference, whatever you are comfortable with.

Yes, I usually do, although not always.  The wire is so thin, I can usually fill any gap between the rim halves with solder.  It really is cleaner though if you use a little triangular needle file and put a little notch where the wires will be.  In that case, I would set up the rim with the wires like you see in the pic, mark the rim with a sharpie where each wire will touch, then disassemble it, remove the rim from the jig, and use the file to notch where the marks are.  Then reassemble the whole thing and solder everything up.

Well guys, I guess I’m calling this one done.  Despite some challenges along the way with the gloss black paint, and other fairly minor frustrations, all in all I can say that I’m pretty happy with it.  I’ve always said that if I can place my builds on the table near those of the many great builders that I have become acquainted with over the years, then I am proud to do so.  So here on this virtual table that Dennis started so long ago, with so many really awesome builds, I am setting mine.  There is still plenty of room for more.
