Pico Posted October 2, 2020 Posted October 2, 2020 The raw material received from the 3D printer who prints my 1/24th scale bodies. All other (smaller) parts are printed on my Anycubic Photon.
DonW Posted October 2, 2020 Posted October 2, 2020 Maserati Ghibli, '66 to '73. Looks pretty accurate.
Spottedlaurel Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 Looks like you have a fantastic start there. I like the big, powerful GTs from that era, look forward to seeing it progress.
Snake45 Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 Very, VERY cool! How long did it take you to hack it out of the forest, and what tool(s) did you use to do so?
Pico Posted October 3, 2020 Author Posted October 3, 2020 Probably about 10 minutes, using wire cutters. Have to be careful with the short pieces, don't want to apply too much force, it may push and break part of the model. Whittle away the support in that case.
SSNJim Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 I don't know if you know about this site, but it was quite handy when I built my Bora: http://www.thecarnut.com/maseratimanuals.html All sorts of good information on all Maseratis including colors, brochures and technical information.

Fabulous resource, thanks!
Madhatter Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 that 3D printed body looks awesome! I have one question though, would the Anycubic not print a body of that size? I'm seriously considering buying one, but if it won't handle a car body, I'm not sure if it'd be worth it.

However there will soon be two printers on the market that will: the Anycubic Mono X and the Elegoo Saturn. The Anycubic has a build volume of 192 X 120 X 245 mm (7 1/2 X 4 3/4 X 9 1/2") and the Elegoo's volume is 192 X 120 X 200 mm ( 7 1/2 X 4 3/4 X 8"). They should be released this month; I suggest you wait until the prices drop, rather than ordering immediately. My Photon started about $500, and I waited until it was $300, a year ago, now they are about $175. Another thing: the printer that made my body does a good job, there will always be some filling and sanding, but either the Anycubic or Elegoo will have a better resolution than it.
Madhatter Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 awesome - thanks for the info. I think I'll wait for the Mono to be released and for the price to drop I have some projects in mind that will require a larger printing volume than the Photon S

If you were a swinging sixties Euro playboy, what better way to cruise between the gambling dens, fleshpots and watering holes of Rome, Paris, and London than in your oro metallizzato and bianco Ghibli; to match your gold bellbottoms, white silk shirt, and gold chains?
peteski Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Wow, that is one of my favorite all-time cars. Such beautiful sleek lines. Timeless and gorgeous! They don't design cars like that anymore. I have a 1:43 diecast. So cool to see it in a larger scale.
Oldcarfan27 Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 Wow! So much improvement in 3d printers in such a short period of time. I remember just a couple of years ago we were on the cusp of this technology and it sounded so promising - but it was just sooooo expensive! Thousands (even tens of thousands) of dollars for printers that could only do rough, choppy products at best. Now, we can do stuff such as nice as this, using printers that are in the hundreds of dollars - with prices falling all the time. This are great days indeed!
Dann Tier Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 I'm not a 3D fan, but i love these cars, and i can still appreciate the art of the build -cant wait to see more!!!
Pico Posted October 6, 2020 Author Posted October 6, 2020 That metallic paint shows the bodywork flaws.
