1951 Chevrolet Fleetline Custom

As a car coachbuilder in real life i´ve allways admired Guys like Gene Winfield, George Barris, Bill Hines and all the other great american custom builders. They brought me to building  model cars. So Custom Cars of the good old days are still my favorite.

I started this 51´Chevy (can somebody explain my german brain the differernce between the old AMT Bel Air Deluxe and Fleetline Kits?) in 2003 and hope to get it finished in 2020. They elder pics are from my old house and my old workbench. I found out things changed a little bit since 2003. More new tools, paints and of course more internet to find some references.

So i hope u enjoy.

Thank you Tom. Finally my new workbench is ready and i love it. Time to build....I had to round up the rear window a bit. I cut off some wheel rims and put them on. I also have to choose a rear bumper.

I like your body modifications. As for the rear bumper, who says you have to have a rear bumper?  You already have a front "roll pan" and it wasn't uncommon to have the same treatment for the rear also. I would suggest having a recessed mounting area for the rear license plate in the rear roll pan. The way you chopped the roof and reshaped the rear window looks great.

Aside from the obvious body differences, they kits are identical aside from interior pieces to fit the different body style. Maybe a wheel/tire difference depending on the age of the kit. I'm enjoying the work.

Beautiful and well organized work bench. Although it's also way too clean and unclutteed looking in my humble opinion ?

The Bel Air has drag oriented optional parts while the Fleetline and convertible kits have custom optional parts.

You´re right David i first plan without a bumper but then i decided to bring on a chrome bumper to get some contrast to the paint. Thank you!

Great looking interior. What is your engine source, what looks like an 3 speed manual with and overdrive unit stands out to me. ?

Hi the engine comes from the AMT 1957 Chevy Bel Air Kit. The detailed version.

Greetings

I didn't see an answer to your question but the Fleetline  is a sedan with the sloped roof line and the Belair is a hardtop. You are doing a great job if it were me I would take the center post out of the windshield like to 50 Olds.

Thank you very much!

Glad you guys like it. I thought about removing the centerpost but now its allready painted now ?...Pics will come soon...

So the story goes on...

Body painted in Tamiya Gold. Found some small bad points on the paint because i don´t work clean enough. But i can live with that small issues. Baremetalfoil applied. Building a exhaustsystem with the Bel Air silencers and aluminum weldingsticks. Also cut new glass from clear packaging.
