Hey Jeff, awesome collection of AWB A/FXer’s/ match racers. I just joined MCM forum in March and missed your Dec postings, so I’m glad they came back to the top of the finished drag cars listings so I could check them out - nice collection!  We have similar taste although my favorites are SS’ers between ‘60 - ‘65 before they started to morph into funny cars. I’ve completed 14 over the last few years and have another 10-12 in my stash which I hope to complete unless burn-out sets in. I have a resin ‘62 Ford Galaxy light weight and Brannan’s “Bronco” AWB ‘65 Mustang on the bench now and hope to finish and post them in the coming weeks. Decals seem to dictate what I build...

Like others here, I’m really interested in that Chrisman Comet with the set-back engine as well as Dyno’s AWB Comet - please post more pics of both, even if they’re still in process.

Thanks for sharing your cool collection! John

papajohn97, here are a few super stockers I have built.  My favorite is the Mickey Thompson Hemi conversion Ford Thunderbolt.  Used the the heads and valve covers from the Tennessee Thunder for my conversion.

Next one in my "how many different ways can I build the Moebius Golden Commandos car Series".  I started with the California Flash Moebius '65 Plymouth hardtop kit.  I cut 6" from the floorpan and moved the rear axle into the A/FX position.  I grafted the Moebius Golden Commandos front subframe onto the Flash chassis to get the wheelbase of The Professor.  I moved the driver back 18" and gutted the interior like the cars at Yellow River Drag Strip back in the day.  The engine was also moved back 6".

Great collection of drag cars.  I really like the Russ Davis Thunderbolt. May get one of those down the line.

This is one I have wanted to build for a very long time.  The reference picture is from the 1966 HOT ROD Magazine yearbook.  I took the Don Nicholson '62 Bel Air and moved the rear axle forward 16".  In keeping with the Yellow River Drag Strip theme of the day, I removed the front bumper and gutted the interior.

I had started doing an altered wheelbase 62 as well back when they first came out and I dont remember where it went. I wonder if thats why one of my kits is missing its body haha

Nice car Scott8950.  I wish I had done the sedan.  I was going to use a resin body which is why I ended up with the bubble top.  The body was terrible and I punted and moved the wheel opening on the Nicholson Bel Air.  I cut the 16" from the chassis in the dead center to keep the X-frame symmetrical.

Thanks, here is 3 more I built.

Lindberg 64 dodge and a amt 66 nova, I cut the dodge chassis in the rear floor pan area and the 66 nova is on a rat packer chassis. 64 belvedere was a petty stock car it was also cut in rear floor area.

I have alot of awb stuff these are just cars I cut and built.

Really impressed with all these AWB builds done by modifying stock wheel base kits. Are most of you guys using two bodies/ kits to do these or are you cutting out the wheel openings on the bodies, shifting them forward and filling in the remaining cut open areas with sheet styrene? I hope to build the AWB ‘65 Chevelle “Seaton’s Shaker” using the Revell kit soon and wondering if I need to find a second Chevelle kit to do the body mods. Would rather not use an AWB resin body or one of those crappy AMT AWB kits.

I can't speak for others but in, my case, I chose to cut the body much like you would have done with a 1:1 race car. Used a scribe for the horizontal cut and a thin blade saw for the vertical cuts. Glued the removed fender piece behind the arch which was moved forward and filled the saw kerf gap with a small piece of sheet styrene. Don't forget that you'll also need to correspondingly modify the chassis/floor pan too.1922021659_DSC04788-Copy.JPG.8d4b54798207722b625fda5b93f47e51.JPG1620710440_DSC04794-Copy.JPG.a7ad54f072ea3ef073766b4a7e0b06e4.JPG1832215549_DSC04795-Copy.JPG.b4ec2a62ca4b0ee83e6fe1f96127f21d.JPG2116531665_DSC04796-Copy.JPG.108b08b13b26380f3ab5e8d19b1634b0.JPG

Thank you Engineerbob (Grant) for the detail instructions, looks like a good way to go. I’m hoping to push the front axle forward as well on a few of the cars which may be a challenge. Not too worried about the chassis and interior mods. You do really nice work btw. Much thanks!
