Casey Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Coming soon, the 1/25 AMT (originally MPC) 1929 Ford Woody/Pickup kit, which can built built as either. It appears to be mostly the same as the previous RC2 era reissue, without the Goodyear Rally GT tires, though, fortunatley: Content pics of the '80s AMT/Ertl reissue here: https://modelkitreviews.proboards.com/thread/99/amt-1929-ford-woody-pickup 1
Jon Cole Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 Awesome! But my God, back in the 80's they would have been better off just wrapping the box in a brown paper bag. 1
Muncie Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Ahh, I'm saved. I messed up a project on the bench. My cut and hack on the body didn't work out... I've been thinking a Model A pickup would be a better plan anyway. Any idea when we could see this kit?
Mr. Metallic Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Well, it appears the Hot Curl is truly lost to the ages. Because if they had it surely they would have put it back in this issue? Depending on what they do decal and tire wise I might buy one. But I already have several, so they will really have to make it worth it. Maybe wood decals for the inserts? Box art is very nice though

stavanzer Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 (edited) Well, Just changing the tires will be a 100% improvement. Add in some new decals and maybe a couple small freebies and it should sell well. With the Revell, (ex Monogram) Woody off the market, it will have the shelve at Hobby Lobby to itself, so the casual buy wanting a Woody will only have one choice. And, in it's favor, it's not a bad choice, just not one that WE would always choose first. All Chromed Flattie is nice, and it does offer stock wheels. Edited March 28, 2021 by alexis
Bob Ellis Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 This was an MPC kit. I think it shares parts from the amt 1928 Ford Tudor.
Mark Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 The whole fender/chassis unit (frame and floorboards are molded with the fenders, as one piece) and stock engine and suspension parts are from the '28 sedan. The sedan had the spare tire at the rear, so it didn't have a tire well in the front fender. The original issues of the woody and pickup did have a welled front fender but it was later removed, and the new issue will probably not have it. So the reissue would be a good source of parts for rebuilding a sedan, or a good base for a resin sedan body.

carrucha Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 I built the 1980's reissue a few years ago. It builds into a nice model. It had a lot of flash. The Stingray bike was a nice touch. Lots of leftover parts to go into the parts bin.
Mark Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Those Cragar wheels have long stalks molded onto their back sides. Trimming those would pull the wheels/tires under the fenders, and make everything look a bunch better. Or swap wheels to something else, like steelies with Ford hubcaps, or early V8 wires.
1972coronet Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 In an early 1988 issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast featured a build up of the then-newly reissued 1929 Pickup/Woody by Tim Boyd. I'm pleased that those P.O.S. Rallye G.T. "snow" tyres hath been replaced by a nicer set.

stavanzer Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 I know Tim's build inspired me! I really liked the colour, and used it in a couple builds, back then.
slusher Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 I built that kit once as the pickup but it would be nice to build it again as a woodie…
stavanzer Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 How often does this kit ever get built as a Stock A-Model, I wonder. I've heard that the stock wheels are not very well done.
Mr. Metallic Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 Hope these show up at HL at some point. I have 2 Wild One's issues and 2 80's molded-in-tan versions, but I'd love to have another at the right price. I miss Hot Curl
