doorsovdoon Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Started this a few days ago to practice my foil under paint method for the badge scripts. Turned out ok but still a long way to go before I get it right. I bought this kit last year after seeing the new release of the '64, they weren't available in the UK at the time but found this older release instead. Very nicely detailed kit and comes with two engines, a slant six and a 426 V-8. I'll be using the V-8 in this build. Colour is Tonic Blue metallic.
mrmike Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Good looking Belvedere! Looking forward to more of this build!
bisc63 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Very nice color choice, and on these old uni-body Chryslers, should also be that color in the engine compartment, all over. Off to a good start!

Off to a good start! Thanks, Rusty. Yes, I almost started painting it like a framed car, I primed the inner fenders and firewall then realised it's a monocoque construction.
FLHCAHZ Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I think the foil emblems are looking good! The rest of the foil work is spot on
Captain Spaulding Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Looking really good, like your color choice.
NOBLNG Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Nice work on the foil. The colour looks good on it too.?
Steve H Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Looks great Gareth, I have been thinking about trying the “paint over foil” technique. What did you use to remove the paint, a toothpick? As the others have said, the colour looks fabulous, nice work! Cheers, Steve
ModelcarJR Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Nice paint and foil, Gareth! The removal of the painted foil looks good too! Nice work and nice start! ?
Spottedlaurel Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Nice start on it Gareth. Colour looks good, from memory I think it's one that was used on the late '90s Focus? Suits the Belvedere well. As a lighter shade I also think it's a good start for the foil under paint technique (one I haven't yet tried). You'll have a bit more margin for error than a dark colour or black?
slusher Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Great color and trim work on your Plymouth Gareth. Real nice start also.
Tom Geiger Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Looks good! Save that six! It’s the best slant six engine done in our scale!

I just used 1000 grit until I started seeing spots of silver. I didn't rub all the way down, even 1000 grit will rip through foil, as soon I started to see silver I turned to a light cutting compound and then polish.

That's what I was thinking, black would show every little flaw in my foil! I think you're right regarding the colour, it's called Ford Tonic Blue. Most of the cars that come up in images are late 90's early 2000's Ford Focus

ewetwo Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 My uncle had a 1963 Plymouth the same color. But is was a bare bone model so I don't know what you'd call it. But not Belvedere.

doorsovdoon Posted April 20, 2021 Author Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) Moving along nicely with this, I pretty much finished the body and then moved on to the interior. Lighting isn't very good but the seats and door cards are two tone. The interior moulding is very nicely detailed on this kit, so I spent a bit of time trimming fine strips of foil for the seat piping. It took ages, Lol! The dashboard in this kit is very nice. doorsovdoon Posted May 5, 2021 Author Posted May 5, 2021 Got a bit more done today. Been busy decorating this week so progress has been a little slow on this one, but it's nearly done now.
ewetwo Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 My uncle had a 1964 in that color. It had the slant six. He said it had over 300,000 mile on it and the engine was never taken apart. It ran great but there were no floors or trunk left.
