Started this a few days ago to practice my foil under paint method for the badge scripts. Turned out ok but still a long way to go before I get it right. I bought this kit last year after seeing the new release of the '64, they weren't available in the UK at the time but found this older release instead. Very nicely detailed kit and comes with two engines, a slant six and a 426 V-8. I'll be using the V-8 in this build. Colour is Tonic Blue metallic.

Very nice color choice, and on these old uni-body Chryslers, should also be that color in the engine compartment, all over. Off to a good start!

Thanks, Rusty. Yes, I almost started painting it like a framed car, I primed the inner fenders and firewall then realised it's a monocoque construction.

Looks great Gareth, I have been thinking about trying the “paint over foil” technique. What did you use to remove the paint, a toothpick? As the others have said, the colour looks fabulous, nice work!

Cheers, Steve

Nice start on it Gareth. Colour looks good, from memory I think it's one that was used on the late '90s Focus? Suits the Belvedere well.

As a lighter shade I also think it's a good start for the foil under paint technique (one I haven't yet tried). You'll have a bit more margin for error than a dark colour or black?

Thanks, Steve. I just used 1000 grit until I started seeing spots of silver. I didn't rub all the way down, even 1000 grit will rip through foil, as soon I started to see silver I turned to a light cutting compound and then polish.

That's what I was thinking, black would show every little flaw in my foil! I think you're right regarding the colour, it's called Ford Tonic Blue. Most of the cars that come up in images are late 90's early 2000's Ford Focus

Looks good!  Save that six! It’s the best slant six engine done in our scale!

That's the idea! I'm hoping to use the 6 in a future curbside;)

My uncle had a 1963 Plymouth the same color. But is was a bare bone model so I don't know what you'd call it. But not Belvedere.

Probably a Savoy.

Moving along nicely with this, I pretty much finished the body and then moved on to the interior. Lighting isn't very good but the seats and door cards are two tone. The interior moulding is very nicely detailed on this kit, so I spent a bit of time trimming fine strips of foil for the seat piping. It took ages, Lol! The dashboard in this kit is very nice.

My uncle had a 1964 in that color. It had the slant six. He said it had over 300,000 mile on it and the engine was never taken apart. It ran great but there were no floors or trunk left.

I have heard those old slant six's are bullet proof.
