Painted Black Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 (edited) This is one of those builds you could paint a hundred times, and it still wouldn't turn out right. So it has ended up as this, my version of Ole Earls $29.99 jobs, of course its been a year since Earl painted it . Stay tuned, more to come.. Edited June 5, 2021 by Painted Black 1
slusher Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 (edited) So is it going in the purple tank or is this the right look? Edited June 4, 2021 by slusher

Carl, this IS the right look..it has been stripped three times already and I'm just looking to get it done. But, I'm not letting Earl paint any more of my cars 1
Zippi Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 Nice. Haha....I assume you are talking about Earl Scheib? I had them paint a truck for me back in the late 70's for $99.
Mike F. Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 A friend of mine once went to Earl for a paintjob........ Orange peal. Blamed it on my friend's prep work.
espo Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 As Mike F. mentioned, don't forget the "Orange Peal" finish. Mine was a '51 Ford two door that looked good the further away you stood from the car.
Tom Geiger Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 Ha! This is gonna be fun! Earl Scheib.. we paint cars! We paint chrome! We paint bird poo! it was like a car wash with paint!
Painted Black Posted June 4, 2021 Author Posted June 4, 2021 Thanks everyone, great comments, David, this is ten years after Earl painted it and the owner is slowly scrapping and buffing back to the original paint.. So I got the box stock interior done today, just need to add some accessories to it, maybe a CB or an 8-track if I can find it... Thanks for looking.. 1

Cool make perfect sense about the look…
Painted Black Posted June 4, 2021 Author Posted June 4, 2021 Update; got the engine in this afternoon, moving right along with this build, may be done by Monday... 1
Zippi Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Looking pretty sharp there Robert. The interior looks great.

Zippi Posted June 5, 2021 Posted June 5, 2021 Haha.....I guess you also told the DMV that you only paid $100 for it to save on the state taxes ☺
Beamerman Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 Very cool Paint job...i like it... I´ve never heard about that Earl Scheib thing so i had to search the Internet about it. It made my day hahahaha....awesome...i need to talk to my paint shop owner about his prices tomorrow... 1
Painted Black Posted June 11, 2021 Author Posted June 11, 2021 Well, sad to say but this build is on hold till I can figure out what to do about the mess I made of the windshield install, just not any surface area to glue. May try cutting one from acetate, not sure just yet...so on to the 70 Chevelle redo...
Painted Black Posted June 12, 2021 Author Posted June 12, 2021 (edited) Yep, at 1:45 this Saturday it was laid to rest. Edited June 12, 2021 by Painted Black

But, I'm not letting Earl paint any more of my cars I once went to his shop to find out about painting my car, I saw one of his men sanding down a dirty Trans Am to prep for paint and another getting ready to paint a car over a dirty floor. His row of finished cars told me everything I needed to know - I left and went somewhere else!
bisc63 Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Would love to see this one finished! Great looking car and great looking model. Absolutely love the engraving on the interiors of these old kits. They had very believable textures to the various surfaces, especially the vinyl upholstery. Your clean detail work only emphasizes this fact. Nice work!

I am in absolute awe of the mold makers who did this stuff back in the 60s, long before the advent of CNC machining and other advanced techniques. I mean, to machine the tiny gauge markings in 1/25th scale, the ones I can't even paint neatly? Crazy!! Cool build, Painted Black. I know how it is with a completed model sometimes...better to take it to the styrene chop shop and free up parts for a new build! So much of the fun is in the building process, and having a finished model is just icing on the cake.
