Phildaupho Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 Mercurys have got to be at the top of list when thinking about customs cars. At first I was just thinking about 49-50-51 Mercurys but really a Mercury from any year is worth seeing. I will get the ball rolling with my three Mercurys from the 49-51 era but lets see your custom Mercs from any era. At the left front is the just completed Hirohata 51. Behind it is the recently built Sam Barris 49. To the right are two 49s based on the AMT kit. In front is the built early last year replica of the Merc driven by James Dean in the movie Rebel Without A Cause. Behind it is the model that got me back into the hobby in the mid 1990's with which I tried all the classic custom mods such as chopping the top, frenching the headlights and rounding the hood corners. It was also my first use of bare Metal Foil and Tamiya spray paint.Â
Can-Con Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 Nice batch of Mercs there Phil. I've been thinking about doing a Sam Barris style Merc for a while now but just haven't gotten around to it. In the meantime, here's a Merc I built maybe 25 years ago. I had dubbed it the "Jade Idol II" at the time but another 1/1 custom '57 Ford was built that now uses the name.
Claude Thibodeau Posted June 24, 2021 Posted June 24, 2021 Hi Gentlemen! Nice collection, even after just 2 posts! 3 years ago, I restored a 1/1 64 Mercury Marauder BreezeAway (with the notchback roof and roll-down rear window) for a client. But I've nerver seen that body style in scale... Regular "fastback" Marauder, of course. But the BreezeAway? Wonder if a styrene version was ever offered, or maybe just a resin version? CTÂ

carbuilder1950 Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 (edited) Modelhau s Turnpike Cruiser lowered with 60's side exhaust. My first car was a 1950 Merc, so I had to add this 49' with chromed resin Buick headlights and Chromed handmade Buick side trim, and custom body.. Edited June 25, 2021 by carbuilder1950
maltsr Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 (edited) My three, all based on the Revell kit. Edited June 25, 2021 by maltsr
Ramfins59 Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Here's the '49 Merc convertible that I finished up about 9 years ago. It's a resin body from Norm Veber with parts from both the AMT and Revell Merc kits. I went a little crazy in detailing the interior. This model has won Best Custom 3X, Best Interior 2X and Best In Show 2X. Â
Karl LaFong Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 Here's a couple of '61 Mercs: First up, a large 61 with the Kit Kustom parts and 61 (I think) Thunderbird custom wheels. Paint is Tamiya Clear Red, interior is Tamiya Pearl White with Scale Motorsport upholstery decals.     Next, is a 61 Comet with assorted period cusom parts. Paint is Tamiya Light Red Metallic.     Â
spencer1984 Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 This is my only Mercury custom at the moment, though I do have plans for more in the future. Based on the Revell kit. 1
traditional Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 (edited) The '49 Merc is a survivor model from the late '70s......no resin bodies or pre chopped tops back then   This Cadillac powered '40 Merc mild custom was done recently by reproportioning and cutting open an old ITC kit  Edited June 28, 2021 by traditional 1

The 49 is maybe the best survivor I have ever seen. Over 40 years. WOW

Great fleet. And you certainly master the "glossy" part of model car painting! Bravo! CTÂ
falcon wagon Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 A 49 I did back in the 90's a jimmy Flintstone body
Dan Hay Posted June 25, 2021 Posted June 25, 2021 AMT 49 kit mild custom with the Sombreros and Desoto grille from the Revell kit. Flush mounted skirts and tail lights in the bumper guards, nosed/decked door handles removed. Tamiya paint + clear. 1
cheyenne93 Posted June 26, 2021 Posted June 26, 2021 Here is a 49 merc I built probably 7-8 years ago. Wife picked the colors.
oldscool Posted June 26, 2021 Posted June 26, 2021 Every model posted here looks great. I built the Revell kit when it was first released but the pics I have are terrible

Bucky Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Great looking bunch of Mercury! I built the AMT '49 about three years ago, and currently, I have an AMT '67 Cougar on the go. I'll have internet hooked up in a couple days, and will post a few pics, then.
