Nosferatu Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 I know there has always been that Ford and Chevy rival but I love both so I decided to combine them. I started with two vehicles. One was a ’49 Merc and the other was a Chevy SSR Pickup. I cut up the SSR and the Merc. Combined the Merc Front and the SSR Bed. I puttied, sanded and primed this beast. I added rear fender molding and drip rails for the doors. A wet sand and then the base coat of black was applied. I installed a ’57 Thunderbird engine and found some seats in the parts box for the interior. I also cut the windows down to fit. I added a cover on the bed to hide the cutout for the rear end. I fabricated front inside wheel wells from styrene. Unfortunately I lost the interior pics – thanks Photobucket! Shes done in hot pink and black and her name is Rosy. After building ole’ Rosy from the Merc and the Chevy SSR P/U, I had the rear of the Merc and the front of the SSR left over…..and what do you know! They look pretty cool together! I added a small width to the rear and glued it together. I cut out the rear fenders and scratch built some new fenders that were close in shape to the front fenders. I also continued the body ridge from the top of the doors to the trunk to make it more ascetically pleasing. I scratch built the headrests and molded them into the body. I filled in the tail light holes and re-drilled for the new ones for the sunken look. I used some brand of blue nail polish for the final color. Thanks for looking and I hope you like them.
NOBLNG Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 Now that’s something you don’t see every day. Those both blended very nicely! Good eye, and excellent craftsmanship!?
espo Posted June 29, 2021 Posted June 29, 2021 They both look great. The retro styling of the SSR blends well with the Mercury. The finish and paint work look good on both.
gseeds Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Excellent behavior!!! Nothing wasted, no addition to the parts box, and two awesome builds to add to the show case !!
Bucky Posted June 30, 2021 Posted June 30, 2021 Very cool Mercolet builds! Both look well balanced to me.
Nosferatu Posted June 30, 2021 Author Posted June 30, 2021 Thank you again for all the nice comments!
Claude Thibodeau Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 Hi David! Very clever, rne Merc variation seems like a "natural", bravo! I have both kits in my stash, and for years, tried all kind of mash-up concepts with them, but never by marrying those 2. Now, you make me thing of more variations... CT
