doorsovdoon Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 Old kit with incredible amounts of flash. The only fit issues I had was around the front grill and bumper, the wings and front panel needed some careful trimming. Some of the mods I did was open up the hood intake, a wiper motor, steering box and heater hoses, also the old screw bottom radiator support was cut out and replaced with one from the MPC '69 Charger. Decals are ok and look good but they don't really follow the lines of the car. I couldn't get them to clear the front wheel arches without the back half wrapping up over the trunk, so I had to lower them and trim around the front wheel arches. This is the best position for them without looking wonky! The rear end sat a bit to high so I cut a couple of mm off the fixing pegs, the old screw bottom studs, which gave it a better looking stance.

TarheelRick Posted October 2, 2021 Posted October 2, 2021 Very nice model, especially from what is considered a 'pig' of a kit. Looks like you solved many of the problems.

Yeah, it's a bit of a rough kit but when you clean the flash off it's ok as far as old screw bottom style kits go. The side stripes I'm regretting sticking on though as they don't follow the cars lines very well.
Bob Ellis Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 People like to poo poo this MPC GTO kit. You did such a good job on it that it proves that it can look good.

Exhaust was buried in flash and looked "lumpy" and the front grill wasn't a great fit but an easy fix. On 10/2/2021 at 9:10 PM, Zippi said: Nice looking GTO. Color and decals look great. Thanks, Bob. Yeah, I like the blue stripe decals in this kit, shame I got a bit of blackwash leak behind the driver door decal though, lol. 6 hours ago, Bob Ellis said: People like to poo poo this MPC GTO kit. Everything but the front grill fitted ok. I thought maybe the rear lights would be the worst having such a small precise shape but they fitted perfectly.
FLHCAHZ Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 That really came out great. The stripes really set it off

Snake45 Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 You managed to get a fairly decent model out of this wretched old turd. Well done and model on!
BeakDoc Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 That ole kit is kind of a booger. You turned out a fine looking model from it. Well done, Gareth.
David G. Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Excellent detail painting on the grille assembly and interior with a good eye-catching paint job. Nicely done! David G.
doorsovdoon Posted October 8, 2021 Author Posted October 8, 2021 Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to trying the Revell '66 GTO next, seen some lovely builds on here. It looks lightyears ahead of the MPC '67.
