I found this last weekend stored away  in a box - another candidate for rebuilding:

Built in 1985 from the 1978 (?) Monogram release of the old Aurora kit released in 1964 - my kit was molded in burgundy/very dark red with a tan interior; the body got a brushed-on clear glosscoat only, the interior was left unpainted, engine in different silver/aluminium shades and the underside flat black. Window trim is Humbrol silver brushed on. I did not even remove the parting lines ! The wheels were brushed matte black and the spokes got a black wash. Body lines have some proportion issues, but the quality of the kit was exceptionally good for the time.

The box picture is from the internet (kitform.com)maserati-3500gt-1-25-scale-vintage-kit-product-IMG_20200527_134728852.jpg.86b4a534e20349a1776f23f8a3408459.jpg

Boy , I wish I could find a little treasure like that in my stash . The body has a beautiful shine. Amazing it was clear brushed on. Monogram were doing great kits and subjects back in the day. Although not always spot on, several of their kits were really good even by today' standards. I'll keep an eye on this one.

Great to see a stock example, looks really good!

I have the slightly later (c. 1990?) reissue which I built as a custom, took over 25 years from start to finish. For a kit that dates back to the '60s some elements of it were impressive and overall I thought it went together pretty well. I failed in getting the doors to fully open (my lack of patience/skill there I think) and I found the glass fit was marginal.

Still got the engine looking for a new home.....

Thank you,Mario - it was a simple out-of-the box build without further detailing. Matt Bacon did a very nicebuild of this car correcting all its flaws. I would at least try to correct the front roofline and open the hood scoop.

Thank you Nigel ! Are you the one who built the metallic blue version with a V8 protruding through the hood with radiused wheel wells to cope with the bigger (1/24) spoke wheels ? Saw that not long ago.

Nice build!  I have a built one of these that I picked up pretty cheap as a glue bomb; trying to decide what to do with it.

Thanks, Jonathan - a few years ago I found one in an Italian classic car magazine which was used for historic racing : stripped interior with a full roll cage, steel wheels, no bumpers and painted in yellow with a wide blue stripe from front to rear.

That was me! A slightly cartoonish version of a Maserati, but I like how it turned out.

I like what  you did with this vintage kit.  I especially like how you made the wire wheels look more realistic.  I built the original Aurora kit but foolishly let it get away from me so I have picked up 2 built kits which I hope to combine the parts into one.

Thank you Gary - I brushed them with matte black and wiped off the paint from the spokes with a paper towel before it could dry. I'm sure the result of your efforts combining these 2  will be great !

Nice to see one of these built. Excellent work!!

Thanks you Anders - maybe I will correct the roofline and the hood scoop, but I think the dark red/burgundy color  suits it well.

That doesn't need restoration, it looks great as it is!

It's amazing how it's held up for 36 years.

Thanks, Patrick!

I got a kit from an estate, looked at it but never was inspired to build, sold at a model swap meet.  Cool to see one built, nice job!
