landman Posted January 20, 2022 Posted January 20, 2022 Fitted the rear bumper, it took quite a bit of sanding and filing. I think I'll leave the front one off to achieve this look. 2
Oldmopars Posted January 20, 2022 Posted January 20, 2022 You all are doing great. A lot of progress being made. I’m so busy I haven’t worked on mine in a couple of weeks. Hopefully this weekend.

I don't know, you may have to explore other aftermarket wiring kits for those rubber boot connectors... see what fits the best...? Per the Norm though, great work aside I like that header! and I think I'd go for the Webber "stock" intake Thanks for the ideas! ? made a quite convincing part I believe. A brass tube was cut and the cable put straight through. Then angled it and used canopy glue for the e soft part of the booth. Looks good enough ? my part vs stock part, needs a repaint I believe due to damage when gluing the bracket on. And I must say, a good Mitre block and set of saws are such a improvement of what I had. I also customized some parts from the PB to make a fan assembly. Edited January 20, 2022 by Mattilacken 1 1

landman Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 Grumble, grumble... So what's new? The paint did not work ........again. Here we go ....again.
tim08 Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 Hate to see that landman. I always seem to have trouble with paint the first few shots at it.
tim08 Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 I'm gonna throw my hat in with this. Along with the Plymouth in the Peking to Paris build. I figure I have a year to build, why not try. Was debating to go with the Nova wagon, but to go across the country I think this would be a little more comfortable to drive. Plus it's just about as roomy as the wagon. and more power. 1

Lunajammer Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 So the 61 Ranchero got some paint. It's a Krylon color called Celery. Discontinued, I bought it on sale some years ago and have been waiting for a project to use it on, wasn't even sure if it's still any good. Also, I'm still undecided about the five slot mag wheels, so I did a mock up with some deep dish, six lug steelies that I cast a few years ago. Still undecided, but I'm getting the picture of where this is going. Interior was painted with some camouflage paint that is very flat, almost powdery and it's dark, as tan colors go. 1
MeatMan Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 I got the rear suspension on mine completed but don't like the size of the torsion bar supports so I printed a new assembly. The paint is curing on it so no pics yet. For the front suspension I'm trying to figure out the best way to go, McPherson or double wishbone. The body is so short vertically that its a bit of a challenge and I'm no expert, tho I've done a few. Bodywise I'm narrowing down the look I want. I've decided to go with a frameless windshield, tho it will have a surround along the edge of the glass. I've also decided on some narrow side pipes because of the way the rear suspension is supported, and the lack of room. I thought about running the pipes over the transaxle but they would be sitting very low. Additionally I've decided to lose the chrome hood strips and small cowl scoops to modernize the look a bit. The taillights on the kit glue straight to the body and I'm not crazy about them either. I put out a wanted thread for some Viper taillights that I'd french in but no bites so far. I have some red film that I may use. Its a custom so changes are the norm. At least the engine is pretty much ready to go except for the the air filter. I'm going to print a simple cone filter when I get enough parts to print. Right now I have the seats, bellhousing, and filters set to print but want to fill the build plate. I did print the wheels. I wanted something current but a bit different and streamlined like the body. The front tires are printed as well. 1

The color combo is very subdued, like you're trying to blend in. Gonna throw this out there... Wood grain on the insert? Would look rugged and Mountineer-ish. How about a Campertop while you're at? ? just some suggestions...

Clever positioning of the trans-axle. I love the those wheels, they're perfect for this build. This one is gonna catch us off guard for sure!? 1

I haven't had time to really think about my entry lately... I need to buckle down and commit soon. But we still have time so no pressure... I'm seeing some great progress here and I want in on the action so I'm gonna choose soon. Honestly, I may have missed the Vette somehow too. The fourm will let you edit posts but only for a limited time. I think I may have tried to pick up some on the next page.?
disconovaman Posted January 22, 2022 Author Posted January 22, 2022 So I'm committed to the Drag Strip Wrecker... I think ? When I was a 6 or 7... I had a toy called the "Clyde's Car Crusher", it even had it's own commercial. I had the idea to build an old school drag style 1973 Chevy as Clyde's Tow-truck. I plan on scratch building a Pro-street tubbed wreaker bed. I'll build a 1:24th scale big block from something probably Monogram. Anyway, that's the plan... 1

I even have a resin canvas topper that would work pretty well (not so much the Town & Country siding) ?. If I ever did one like that it would have to be 4WD to complete the vision. I've already explored doing this with a '59 El Camino and Revell GMC chassis and it looks kinda neat. 1
Oldmopars Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 I have not been able to get a lot of work done on my build, but I did get some done today. I did make a cooler out of some dense foam. I also took the extended range tank from the 69 Jimmy kit, modified them and put them together to make one big saddle tank. Still more finish work to do. I modified the area behind the left rear wheel to allow me to drop the tank lower. I have been working on another large progect so this one has been on the back burner, but at least I am making some progress. The cooler still needs another coat of paint, but I think it looks decent for a foam block. 1

I also had that kit as an option for this year CBR, would have built it a bit like the Roadkill Muscle Truck, still in my want to build que Will be following.
4mula1fan Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Decided to try to polish the old Testors metallic green. It rubbed out pretty nice. Got a little foil work to take care of, but that's not a big deal. Any progress is good I reckon. 1

landman Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Round 2. Retried the first red on a spoon, did the same thing. So now it is this color.
