Mattilacken Posted November 12, 2022 Posted November 12, 2022 My mess up with the clear was not skin deep so I have to strip it and that’s the worst thing I know.. so I started an other 1500… might try to throw the original 1500 body in some brake fluid to morrow and se if it comes off. But it was fun to build some thing else for a bit.. will see which 1500 that will cross the start. started today and had a great go on an awesome kit! 1
spencer1984 Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Some awesome work here, great job guys! Not sure I'm going to be able to get the Ferrari finished before December, going to depend on how Thanksgiving weekend looks.

Everytime I think I'm finished with the fab work I see something else to do. I've been working on making the bed wider because the wrecker boom wouldn't sit between the tubs. The 1:24th Sprint tires and the tractor wheels were the best choice for the Pro-street set up. I have a little more work on the bed and then I'll be on to finish work. As I think about it, color choices have to be made... and that seems as stressful as the fab work... ??? Yellow/Blue White/Orange Yellow/Red Red/White 1

disconovaman Posted November 17, 2022 Author Posted November 17, 2022 More boring Fab work pics, sorry...? Doesn't seem like much work done and it's simple to explain but rather extensive in actuality... I had to stretch the bed to 8 foot probably more like 8.5 in reality, that included replacing the bed rails with styrene tubing and filling the tops in. Then I had to make the bed wider to allow the boom about 1/8th of an inch on both sides. I also had to fill in the "Wooden" boards. I still need to close in the wheel tubs, so more fab work tomorrow. When will the fabbing end? I'll get there soon... I did take time to build the engine but even that needed fab work as I wanted the truck to have an automatic and the 39 Chevy 427 was backed by a manual. So I Iopped off the turbo 350 from the 383 in the 37 ford all 1:24th scale, insuring that I'm keeping consistent with the scale. 2
larman Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 Well, I am late to the party, but I am here! My original plan was a '69 Super Bee with a Hellcat engine, super low, a pro touring type car. I actually started cutting one up, but it did not go the way I wanted and needs way too much for me to finish on time. So, I am not giving up but there has been a change of plans.... A switch to an old school style build. The new plan is an A12 car on Steroids, Steel wheels, blown 440, big and little tires, some parts box additions. I am not sure of the color, but the first incarnation was going to be Petty blue with a black interior and stripe, so I may stick with that, I'm not sure yet. It will be pretty straight forward, but I really want to actually finish for once! 2

disconovaman Posted November 20, 2022 Author Posted November 20, 2022 As of now I think I'm finished with the fab work. I finished closing in the wheel tubs and squaring up the bed. I guess I'm ready for primer/paint... colors... and theme... and changing my mind ten more times... ? I seriously do not know what color, I'm thinking white now... maybe? Or maybe it will come to me after primer... ??? time to start Haulin... 2
Misha Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 Ford 53-302 update: A number of us are quickly attempting to beat the deadline and join the starting grid! I’m not sure if the 53-302 Ford will make it as holiday travel plans are approaching. Yet even if this is a DNF I will complete the project in the new year and post it Under Glass. This has been a very enjoyable build even with the time constraints I’ve encountered. Wishing all the CannonBallers good mojo in completing their builds! Been busy with the smaller bits, adding extra details such as the engine oil cooler along with the fitting for the oil line back to the filter, getting the colour on the fuel cell, constructing a new steering column with signal indicator and cruise control stalk, and adding the release button to the parking brake. Also fitting the Lucas Tri-Star headlights from the recent Chevy II wagon full detail kit. The headlights require considerable thinning in order to fit the body as the photo shows. (With the bright chrome glare I had to edit the photo for better clarity, helped somewhat.) The interior is now prepped with primer and awaiting the two tone scheme. Been a lot of little steps to get most of the parts into their final colour. The engine in nearing completion as is the chassis. The major to-do item remains the final paint application to the body which is a hurdle for me as so much is dependent upon a decent job! Cheers Misha 3
KWT Posted November 21, 2022 Posted November 21, 2022 Nice looking builds going on guys... the finish is approaching rather quick. With work, the weather and me feeling under it, I don't know if I'm going to make it or not... last ditch effort this week/weekend...

larman Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 Got some work done on my entry. The stance is figured out and adjusted and some parts are being stripped, others are painted. The roll bar is fitted (taken from the new Revell '66 Malibu reissue). The body needs clean up and prep for primer, the basic engine is assembled but needs primer to see how much more clean up is needed due to the engine being split, leaving a seam in the middle of the oil pan and trans. That is a definite weak spot on older Monogram kits......I will have a few days off for Thanksgiving, so hopefully I can get it done in time. Still not 100% sure about the color, but I am leaning toward a Duplicolor spray paint I got at Ollie's dirt cheap a few years ago, it is pretty close to B5 Blue.
Mattilacken Posted November 22, 2022 Posted November 22, 2022 I keep on racing! My Magnaflow mufflers and 3mm bras tube bent and opened up in the end so it look more to scale. Alsorelocated the battery in a battery box from my PB where the tank used to sit. Made some progress to night. Decals was keeping it to getter her but had to be “washed” before applied since they where giving gray gue. The bags are thrown in the back to see if they fit ? as well as the snowboards. I guess the Swede will go to the Rockies before going home to Sweden. interior starts to come to getter, did respect the dash, had some over spray on the black. Still thinking if I make seat belts or not.. time will tell. Need to put some cans and stuf in there I guess.

Sam I Am Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Here I am again with some more progress. I have only built two models this year, and this is the second. ? but since I'm feeling better, let's hope next year is better. I have the bmf all finished and the glass in. It's almost there. Interior, chassis, and bumpers should do it. I can smell the salt air. 1
disconovaman Posted November 23, 2022 Author Posted November 23, 2022 Wow! Some action on here and Nice progress from some late runners... I guess I'll join y'all ??? 4 hours ago, Mattilacken said: I keep on racing! GO! GO! GO! I see we have a trend with red interior starting! ? maybe Sam I Am will put red interior in that beautiful Chevelle ? Primer coat on the body finally and some color! 1
disconovaman Posted November 23, 2022 Author Posted November 23, 2022 Oh and another thing I forgot to mention, have you guys ever seen used decals being salvaged before? If not... you have now... this decal was on the back window of an 80's build up, been on there for 30 plus years. I was able to get it loose and I plan on using it on my build as a tribute to the Monogram Chevys. Stay tuned!
Sam I Am Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Ha! Sorry, no red interior for this beast. ? Interior is installed and chassis nailed down. 2
Sam I Am Posted November 23, 2022 Posted November 23, 2022 Last post for tonight. It may not have all the details I wanted it to have...but I love the end result. 3
disconovaman Posted November 24, 2022 Author Posted November 24, 2022 Today was a productive day... I managed to get some colors on and finish up the interior among other things... from this point on it's gonna be difficult to send updates without spoiling the reveil so I'm gonna have to get it done quickly. ? I'm finishing up the drive train, narrowed the rear-end, notched the frame, and relocated the front mounts. This lowered the front differentials for that slammed Pro-street look. What a combination... Pro-street 4x4 Tow-truck... this has to be a first on the Cannonball ??? 1
larman Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 "Plan Bee" update: The body is painted, a little darker than I expected, but looks good. The interior was painted Tamiya Nato Black with a semigloss clear coat. The roll bar is body color. I got a lot of other stuff painted and did a little detailing on things that were already dry. I added frame connectors and a drive shaft loop to the chassis and got it painted. The wheels are painted black and the white letter decals were put on the tires. They will need a coat of dullcote when they dry. The engine is painted red because I didn't have any orange. I will mask and paint the trans tomorrow. Still a long way to go, but a lot or progress today! 2
KWT Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 Larry, that's a nice looking blue on that body. Hope you get it knocked out.. Folks the El Camino won't be making it to the race. I'm about half done and I'm outta time. Nice job to all that made it, and good luck to the ones that may knock it out in the last leg. 1
Mattilacken Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 I might make it. Even though I have had more issues. Need to get an other polish a final or I have to get an other cloth. The paint got scratches.also the decals wrinkled. Will sort that later.. got glass in after removing the center bar. Also glued the rear wheels and shocks. And a simple detail in the interior, a road atlas from 1987 the year when I was born ?
