Rich Chernosky Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Saw a post on hear a few months back about this kit and knew I had to finish it. This kit was painted before that so it was in the cue to be finished anyway. Color is Tamiya TS-45 Pearl white over white plastic. Cleared with TS-65 pearl and then TS-13 clear. Kit is a curbside and was done mostly box stock with a few additions like, carpet, exhaust tip and a few other mods. Well engineered kit and mostly a joy to build. See captions for more info. Thanks for looking and comments are welcome. Finished kit on its wheels. Decided to use my fall background and a little forced perspective. Chrome trim was the biggest pain on this kit. Hasegawa attached them to the sprues in a lot of places and all those little nubbins had to be trimmed off with a very sharp razor blade. Gluing them on was no easy job either but they all fit in the end. Rear veiw has quite a bit of detail. Instructions called for the use of decals for the logos but Hasegawa also included those cool press on metal stickers...so I went for cool. Don't like front license plates on cars so I found a Penna (which doesn't require them) plate in the stash. And besides..its my home state. Kit wheels steered and were well done. But the wheel wells had to be carved to allow them a decent turnout. With such a well engineered kit how did they goof up on this. BMW put their logos on the front backwards on purpose. That way if you saw one these cars in your rear view mirror you knew you were about to be passed by a 2002 turbo. A little zealous on BMW's part but a cool feature just the same. 2
TonyK Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 One of my favorite BMW's and you did a great job on the model. Your background worked out well for these pics. Always appreciate the build experience as it let's us know the details if we decide to build the kit.
spencer1984 Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Nice work! I hadn't known about the backwards logos, but BMW always did have a sense of humor.
1959scudetto Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Excellent build of my favourite BMW, Rich !

Thans you Helmut....do you have one of these in your stash..or have you built one.
Erik Smith Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Great looking BMW! I have a couple of the rally versions. Only complaint is the interior door panels, but Hasegawa seems to be making some improvements in their newer kits.
espo Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Beautiful looking finishes and I like the BMW style stripes on the lower body.

Hasegawa, Fujimi, Tamiya, Ebbro all make excellent kits. And yes...they have come a long way since the early 70's. Most of my collection are these brands. 2 hours ago, espo said: Beautiful looking finishes and I like the BMW style stripes on the lower body. A couple of those decals came apart but they went on nicely. The decal sheet had a lot more on it that I didn't use. The detail on some of the real tiny ones was amazing. They will find their way onto other projects fer sure. Thanks for the compliment ,David.
89AKurt Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 You did a great job on it! Good to know about the rear wheels wells. I have this in the stash, along with the USCP engine and door panels. Someday.......

Gary...I have noticed that Model Cars Under Glass is the most active page on this site. One day you can be on the front page and the next day....not. So I would not be surprised that it would slip by you. On top of that since retiring I have been building like crazy so keep an eye out for me. And thank you for the kind words. ..BTW 1 hour ago, cobraman said: Very nice work. Thank you Ray.
